Hamsters are simple to look after. the must is a cage, make sure it is a decent size, also you must have a water bottle. i suggest a running wheel, and exercise ball and wooden toys to keep teeth blunt. for the cage you need news paper and sawdust, beds can be wooden boxes or you could buy one.kitchen roll tubes are great toys too. obviously you need food, but that's cheep!

The animal needs to see a vet, so get an adult to arrange this for you. Try to avoid handling it and possibly separate it from the others to try and keep it still.

What does a male do to a female snail for babies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Nothing. Simply because there is no such thing as a male or female snail.

All snails are hermaphrodites. Meaning all snails have both sexual organs and they both sperm and lay the eggs. The snails "stick" themselves together by their underbellies and both fertilise each other.

How do male hamsters attract a female hamster?

User Avatar

Asked by Narma134

Female ferrets have seasons. And in those seasons, it's not really about the male "attracting" the female. It principally involves the male ferret leaping on the back of the female ferret, biting her neck so as to hold her in place, and consummating the "relationship".

User Avatar

What do you feed a baby hamster?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Feeding hamsters is rather simple, at your local pet store, you can buy high-protein food for them or at home you can feed them 'treats' such as fruit and vegtable. I find my hamster enjoys popcorn, but some of these vegtables help their immune system;

  • Seedless apples
  • Blueberries
  • Seedless grapes
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Clevery
  • Peas
  • Uncooked pasta
  • Unsalted pumpkin seeds
  • Unsalted sunflower seeds
  • Alfalfa
  • Cooked chicken (no sauce, brine, etc.)
  • Melo
  • Kale (decoritive lettuce)
  • Cucumbers

Hope I helped you & your hamster!! (:

How do you make your hamster chew its toy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There Is actually no way to make your hamster chew a toy, if your hamster feels its teeth need to be trimmed they with start chewing things. Hamsters often chose to chew on the Bars of the cage as it grinds their teeth really quick. I have got 2 Syrians and a Roborovski Dwarf, only 1 of the Syrians decide to chew. Eating their food also grinds their teeth down from time to time.

How do hamsters get pregnant?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Roughly the same way we do. The female needs to mate (copulate) with a male hamster. To do this, put the male and female in a box together. Watch carefully and separate them if they start fighting. They will fight because they are solitary animals. After mating, return them to their cages. Then let the magic of pregnancy begin.

Can you leave your hamsters in balls overnight?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Absolutely not! The cold and draughts will make it sick and it could even end up hibernating. Not to mention any animals, like cats, who could get into your garden overnight and stress the poor thing. It might even die from all the unexpected stress!

What type of bedding should you use for your pregnant hamster and her babies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If your hamster has babies, NEVER touch them because if your smell goes on the baby the mom will eat it. It's best when you put something cozy and soft so the mother can make a nest for them. DO NOT EVER disturb them because it can cause a lot of stress. Put the hamsters in a warm room where it's dark and put a light cloth on top of the cage. Do not separate them; keep in the same cage.

Do hamsters become happy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They make poor pets because they do not seem to interact with their caregivers. However, they must feel love in their funny little world. I believe that if the mother has never given birth, the caregiver must remove the babies after birth because she will eat them. Remember, there is no right adn wrong in the animal kingdom.

Instinct reigns very strongly.

As a hamster owner I know that with proper socialization they can become attached to their owners. As for other hamsters, goldens are strictly solitary, but I had this one exception with two males that acted as a breeding pair. As with dwarves, they can live in bachelor/bachelorette groups with other dwarves of the same age. Instincts and urges do play a huge role in most of their interactions, but they are mammals, so they can make friends and feel higher emotions. Campell hamsters will actually live together in breeding pairs-as in, a male and female with life together harmoniously, and if one dies the other will fall into a depression like state. And then for my two male goldens, I was shocked to see two hamsters that are usually cutthroat have consensual intercourse, groom each other, and sleep in the same nest. So, long story short, hamsters do feel love, just not as strongly as humans. (p.s. mothers will eat their babies but only when they feel threatened or the baby is dead)

Can you give a hamster dog bones?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I give my Jack Russell cooked lamb and beef bones after a Sunday roast but would not give him Ham as a lot of dogs don't digest pork very well. It used to make my Ridgeback very ILL so I wouldn't risk giving him the bone from any pig based dish...just in case. I get uncooked bones from my lovely butcher too, they don't all offer them but I get a little bag of treats for my pooch. If ever you're unsure that you should give something to your dog my advice would be DON'T. Trust me clearing up after a poorly dog is not pleasant. Stick to what you know. Helen Lyall

Can hamsters share a cage?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

After hearing all this rubbish by UNEDUCATED zoologists it's time for me to answer the question. So 'can a guinea pig and hamster share the same cage', my answer is yes my friend. Under Circumstances.

I did an observation for a month housing a male guinea pig and female hamster, everything worked out well, they slept together , played together etc. But you need to be aware :

Warnings :

- Only house the opposite sexes, e.g. female hamster and male guinea pig or female guinea pig and male hamster.

- Make sure it's a large enough cage for space.

- Be careful with food, mix there foods together in a feeding bowl.

Most definitely not they cannot share a space, guinea pigs can kill hamsters and will because hamsters are so small they will get hurt my guinea pigs. Plus they cant eat the same food so they cannot share feeding bowls.

I would have to agree with the above answer, a Hamster is a different species from a Guinea pig, and it is never advisable to cage them together, the size difference between the species would also make them inappropriate cage mates and they have a different diet, housing opposite sexes makes no difference to anything and a male guinea pig would most likely squash a Hamster to death trying to mate it.
