How would you know if a cockatiel is a male or female?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's very difficult to visually determine the sex of a cockatiel, although experienced bird owners can usually tell. It's very easy to determine by studying the behavior of the bird. When a female wants to mate, she will lower her head and swish her tail back and forth. A male will actually masturbate - on your hand, on a corner of a toy in his cage, or even on the corner of his food bowl. When he is done, he may sing very loudly at the top of his lungs for a few minutes. He will also ejaculate. Males are also more vocal than females, they sing more, and many of them can talk a little. My male cockatiel, Sam, has a vocabulary of about 20 words at times.

How do you know pasta is cooked?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depending on if you have whole wheat or just white spaghetti it takes about 7 minutes from boiling to get a spaghetti noodle el dente. You should also taste-test your noodles when you feel that they are almost done- they should be soft 99% through but in the center just a little bit chewy.
Throw it at the wall! if it sticks, it's done. Or taste. But the first way is much funner.

You test the doneness of spaghetti by lifting a strand out of the water (using a fork or tongs, please), hold in in the air for a few seconds to cool enough to touch. Some people will bite into the strand, other cut it with the fork or a knife. Doneness depends on individual taste; when you bite or cut it and there is the tiniest dot of uncooked center, that's done al dente; if you prefer in softer, wait until there's no uncooked core. When it reaches the doneness you like, immediately drain it so that it won't cook any further. You can mix a dash of oil through the strained pasta to prevent sticking.

How do you help dry skin on a hamster?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

well first off u need to determine whether or not your precious hamster has a skin disease, e.g dandruff. Then u get an oil, any kind really but moroccan is best. u then massage and rub the oil into your hamsters fur 3 times daily, perhaps after every one of your meal times. This is, of course, if you live in a 3rd world country where you would not be eating 3 times a day. Hope this helps you!

Who should i let take care of my hamster when I'm away?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

when you go on holiday you should give your pet to some one you trust like a family member or good friend. tell the person your leaving the pet with how much food and water they should give it and if need how often to clean it out. Don't give it extra food and water and then just leave him/her for a week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can leave your hamster at home for 2 - 3 days (give them extra food and water) but if you leave for more than 3 days give your hamster to a friend of family member you trust and knows some about hamsters.

How do you know if an African Grey Parrot is male or female?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The only really accurate way to tell the sex of a bird is DNA testing, but it doesn't make any difference in how you care for the bird, unless you plan to breed it. In some birds though, the the males colors are much brighter, so that the females will notice them.

Females lay eggs, normally in January when in good breeding condition even when there is no male present.

How long can you leave a Chinese hamster alone?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You need to be more specific with your question. Are you asking how long you can leave your hamster while you go away for a few days? Or, are you asking how long can a hamster live alone as the only hamster? If you are concerned about your hamster possibly becoming lonely for another hamster, don't worry, because they are naturally solitary animals. Normally, they are only together to mate or if a mother is taking care of her young pups.

When does your hamster has babies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Hamsters can get pregnant again right after they give birth to babies...BUT it is best to wait atleast 6 weeks after they give birth so the mom can be strong enough to be pregnant again and it wont place her in danger. Plus that 6 wks is time to get the babies weened from mom... it would place too much stress if shes still nursing babies and has more babies before last liter is weened from her.

What happens if you hold or touch a baby hamster when it is 12 days old?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

if you touched it by hand then you will then have to take care of it yourself because the mom will reject it or eat it. to take care of it you will need a separate cage or something to keep it in. you will have to make hamster formula(i do not know how to make that.)keep it warm check on it every few hours. after you've made the formula you will have to put it into a small low wall bowl for the baby and refresh it everyday the baby will need your help to survive on its own until it is 2 weeks old. you will have to treat it like it is your own baby and make sure nothing is wrong with it.once the baby is then 2 weeks old. you will have to take the other babies from the mother and put them into a different cage from the mother the babies can go into the same cage for a while. but the cage will have to be big like a ferret cage. what you will have to do with the baby you have been taking care of is get a small box of the mothers bedding and rub the baby all in it and then put it into the new cage with the other babies. you have to do this so that the other

babies don't attack it. this will make the baby smell like it cam from the mothers cage so the babies will think that it had been in the mothers cage the whole time.

Dust them with a mite powder that you can purchase from your local feed store. PoultryTalk's Reply: I use ivermectin like you give cows. It treats worms and mites. However its not made for chickens and many dont use it. Many that do use it use different dosages. Some do oral, some inject.

How old do baby dwarf hamsters have to be until you can give them away?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dwarf hamsters reach sexual maturity around 4-5 weeks, which means they can get pregnant at that time. If you do not want a bunch of pregnant "baby" hamsters you should separate them before 4-5 weeks. At 3 weeks they are weaned and don't need their mom anymore. You can find happy new homes at that time.
