How long do hamsters take a nap?

It depends on the hamster really but I have a winter white dwarf hamster and he is active during the early and late hours but he can spend all day sleeping and only wake up for a drink or a little food.

Also, hamsters are nocturnal so they will be a lot more active at night than in the daytime.

What do you do if your hamster will not comes out of its bed?

Hamsters are nocturnal animals which means they sleep during the day and are active at night. If you find your hamster is unwilling to leave her bed during the day, it's because she's trying to sleep (imagine how you'd feel being woken up in the middle of the night!).

Gently wake your hamster by speaking softly to it - they will usually respond after a few seconds. Then carefully remove the bedding, slowly and so as not to cause alarm. They will usually be wide awake within a few minutes and ready to play!

What do alpacas eat in the wild?

Alpacas usually eat grasses - just like llamas, horses and such animals. (2) Alpacas aren't wild! I know you may have been mislead by the topic they have been put under, but alpacas are now all domesticated. I'm so sorry to dissapoint you, but alpacas are no longer wild. Domesticated alpacas, however, eat : - Orchard grass hay - Specially formulated alpaca feed - Gestation and Lactation for pregnant females and growing youngesters - Llama feed mixed with Mare & Foal - A mix of rabbit pellets and the above - Orchard or another form of grass, depending on the area grass is to be grown That is what my alpacas eat, anyway!

Do rats like being held?

If you get them at a very young age and hold them often, they get use to it and are not frightened. An older hamster that hasn't been handled much is more difficult and takes patience and consistency. Some of them never get use to being held.

Can gerbils and hamsters mate and have babies?

No; only girl mice can have babies (but they need a boy mouse to be the father). The problem is, it can be very difficult to tell a boy mouse from a girl mouse. Even the pet stores make mistakes. So sometimes those with pet mice are surprised when they think they have only boy mouse pets but babies appear. That means that at least one of those mice was a girl.

Can a female chinease hamster have a baby without a male?

No. Hamsters are not hermarphrodites, and need a hamster of the opposite gender in order to reproduce, and therefore have offspring (baby hamsters).

So a male hamster would be needed in order for a female hamster to become pregnant.

Is an hamster mammal?

No. Rodents are a large subcategory of mammals, an order that contains beavers, rats, mice, and porcupines. Nearly 40% of all mammal species are rodents.

All rodents are mammals, but not all mammals are rodents.

Do bunnies get along with hamsters?

it doesn't matter if they are plastic but in real life bunnies would probably be afraid of horses and horses might be a bit spooked if a bunny was hopping at their feet

What vegetables can hamsters not have?

A hamster can eat most fruits and veg. If it is poisonous to a hamster they will know to avoid it. Lettice is the only food I would advise you to avoid as it can be known to give a hamster diohorrea.

Can a female hamster have babies by her self?

Yes, under certain conditions a female hamster can become pregnant by herself. This process is actually universal amongst Mammals: cats, dogs, monkeys - even people, although it is very rare.

It is called an 'immaculate conception' and only occurs when the mother has an unusual genetic disorder known as Nazareth's Desease, where the zygote which will become the embryo is actually an unborn form of Parapagus (conjoined twin) which later in life begins to mature and follows the typical gestation.

If your hamster has experienced this, you could be on TV.

What happens if you touch a new bornn baby hamster?

Its not advised to touch a new born baby hamster as the mother can be very protective.

Is a guinea pig better for a10 year old girl or a hamster?

I have had both hamsters and gerbils, and I personally think hamsters make better pets if you want a pet that will interact with you. Although gerbils are awake during the day, and hamsters are not, I was an animal lover when I was younger and played with my hamsters during the day until they were used to it. Gerbils are very fast and hard to handle, where hamsters will cuddle and sometimes fall asleep in your hands. Gerbils tend to bite more, because they do not like to be held as much. When I was younger I would take my gerbils out and they would jump out of my hands and I would have to go and catch them. Also, my gerbils would bite and bite and bite and bite until I put them down. I have a hamster right now that likes to sleep in the pocket of my pajama shirt, and I had one that just died who was THE SWEETEST PET I ever had, she never bite ANYONE, not once! She was handled by small children who were not nice to her and dropped her and she still NEVER bit. Of course, it's best to only let a kid hold the hamster or gerbil if they know what they are doing because they can really get hurt if dropped. Gerbils jump really high and far, so they are DEFINITELY not good for young children to hold. I would say that hamsters are probably better pets if you want to handle them. If they are just to look at, gerbils are very fun to watch. But for a 10 year old, which I would assume wants to hold and interact with their pet, I think a hamster would be the way to go.
