For most televisions, there is no way to change the refresh rate. Television signals are generated at certain field frequencies. In North America, the rate is 59.94Hz and in Europe, it is 50Hz. The incoming signal defines the refresh rate of the display itself.

Some televisions have field doublers that take an incoming signal and create additional fields between the original fields. These will normally claim 120Hz or 240Hz (100Hz and 200Hz in Europe). In these models, the set up menu can be used to adjust the display rate. There is a debate about the effectiveness of field doubling. Although it is designed to offer smoother motion, the processing is not always 100% effective and in some cases, the resulting image may appear less smooth than the original.

LCD screens do get warm during normal operation mostly because of the heat given off by the backlights. LED backlit televisions run cooler than CFL models but they still do show a temperature rise.

If the television is becoming hot rather than just warm, there may be a problem with either the television or the ventilation around it. Make sure that there is free airflow around the whole television as that is often the cause of overheating.

If the problem persists. contact the manufacturer or your vendor. A LCD display should never become uncomfortably hot to the touch, and excess heat may indicate a problem within the set.

I just searched for this very question as I've just experienced it first hand. My aunt has just had Sky installed after moving from a 'Virgin cable' area. She's only paying around £20/month subs but has had a new Sky+HD box installed.

She complained of getting viewing issues after only having it installed yesterday. I called in and checked connections and the Sky installer had connected scart and HDmI cable. The problem she was getting meant that the 'source' button on the TV controller was the only way to get the picture to show. Everytime the TV and Sky box was turned off, the problem returned. She doesn't have the HD package so, by trial and error, I discovered that the HDmI cable is the only one you need. This gives good quality picture on all channels and, of course, excellent HD pictures on the few 'free HD' channels from Sky. Hope this helps

absolutely. the hdmi aspect of it is simply just the connection to the tv. it will play reg dvds, it will no play blu-ray unless specified.

We are not able to receive MSNBC from our provider of cable service, that is Cablevision. They are forcing us to rent another box from them even though we have a new LCD/HD digital set. $72/year is not huge but multiply this times the number of customers they have and you are looking at one big scam. What say you?

We get the E27:00 error a couple of times a year on our 5 DVD changer. It's annoying as you can't even get the DVD player to open the tray. Usually this is an 'easy' fix.

The error usually means one of our DVDs has slipped out of the changer tray and is free floating inside of the player. Unplug the DVD, take the case off, remove the offending DVD, put case back on, reconnect and voila.

When trying to sync your Sony television with your Videocon rote, refer to the owner's manual for both devices. If the devices are not compatible, you will not be able to sync them.
