What happened to the lieutenant of Henry's regiment?
In the Red Badge of Courage, Henry feared that his judgement of his boyhood friends may have been wrong, or "blind." This is stated in the seventh paragraph of chapter two of the book.
"In regard to his companions his mind wavered between two opinions, according to his mood. Sometimes he inclined to believing them all heroes. In fact, he usually admired in secret the superior development of the higher qualities in others. He could conceive of men going very insignificantly about the world bearing a load of courage unseen, and although he had known many of his comrades through boyhood, he began to fear that his judgment of them had been blind. Then, in other moments, he flouted these theories, and assured him that his fellows were all privately wondering and quaking."
There were other examples of fears in regard to his comrades throughout the story. Henry was very young when he joined battle, and his views evolved throughout the story.

Why did King Henry the VIII break away from the Catholic Church and start the Church of England?
The Catholic Church did not allow him to divorce his wife so he decided to create his own church the Anglican Church of England. He also needed money from a war with France and by being head of the church he could use the Catholic's money and land to pay for his wars and banquets. He wanted to marry Anne Boleyn (which he did BEFORE he divorced Catherine, in secret) and therefore needed to get rid of Catherine, who he still had a fondness for and so instead of executing her for made-up crimes, he wanted to divorce her on the basis that their marriage was illegal as she had previously married Arthur (Henry's older brother who died 6 months after their wedding) and even though she had denied consummating the marriage, it probably had been consummated The Pope wouldn't allow this because he had allowed a dispensation so that the marriage was legal "in the eyes of God" and, he was scared of Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor) who was the most powerful man in Europe and was Catherine of Aragon's nephew. Charles V had recently ransacked Rome with his troops, they smashed buildings, raped nuns, and even killed some priests. Also Henry needed a male heir because he knew only had 1 daughter and he knew that a weak succession meant a weak reign. Henry needed a son because when his daughter Mary got married her dowry would be England! Anne had promised Henry a son (a silly thing to do) because she could not guarantee to give him a son.
Unfortunately she did not give him a son and was beheaded in 1536.

What made henryVIII break with the Rome?
he wanted to divorce his 1st wife Catherine of Aragon, to marry Ann Boleyn, the catholic church would NEVER agree to that, so he appointed HIMSELF as head of the church, he then divorced and declared that the the NEW church of England is called the Anglican Church of England and a complete break-a- way from the Roman Catholic church.
Did Henry VIII break with Rome because of religion?
Yes that is one of the reasons that Henry the VIII broke with Rome here are some other answers Why did Henry VIII break from Rome? Some people in England and Europe were starting to become unhappy with the Catholic Church and wanted it to change. Martin Luther, a German reformer, had published an argument that criticised the Pope of tyranny throughout Europe, causing the German reform and although Henry had criticised Luther's arguments, English scholars saw them as valid and believed the Catholic governmnet to be curropt. Henry VIII believed that he needed a son to make sure that the Tudor dynasty survived. Although he had a son while married to Catherine, it was illigitamate - i.e. born out of wedlock - as he had an affair with Elizabeth Blount. The son, Henry Fitzroy, was made the duke of Richmond at the age of 4 - Henry tried to make him heir to the throne outside the traditional methods. However, Fitzroy died from the sweating sickness at the age of 5. Henry's wife Catherine of Aragon had had a number of miscarriages and it was clear that she was becoming too old to have another child. Henry had been married to her for over fifteen years and that Henry had fallen in love with Anne Boleyn and needed the Pope to grant him a divorce from Catherine so that he could marry Anne. Anne was very young whereas Catrherine was old - a marriage with Anne would enable him to have a son. Henry wanted to control the Church to make himself more powerful. The Church controlled two thirds of English Wealth and was highly influencial. Some people followed the church rather than the king. Henry needed money to become more powerful in Europe. The Church had lots of money. The Pope would not give Henry a divorce as he believed it not violate the laws of God since the divine laws (influenced by the natural laws) had justified the act of a man marrying his brother's wife if the marriage had not been consumated. Catherine's nephew, the Emperor Charles V, captured Rome and put pressure on the Pope not to let Henry divorce Catherine. This had frustrated Henry. The Pope continued to refuse the divorce as Charles would not allow his family to be dishonoured by this. Henry felt that the only way the Pope would take this seriuosly was to place him under pressure - hence the fall of Wolsey and the final Act of Supremacy. Henry wanted a son to prevent a civil war breaking out in England after his death. Anne Boleyn and her family and supporters were interested in changing the Catholic Church. Henry believed that he had broken God's law by marrying Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow. This argument was the basis of Henry's justification to divorce, where it floated the laws of Leviticus. This argument was presented by Wolsey to Bishop Fisher, but the laws of Deutoronomy had been upheld and that divorce would not be granted.

If these young men did not follow their educational programme and started to fail they were to be punished.
