What were the reasons that Henry VIII broke from Rome?
There were four main reasons that Henry VIII broke from Rome.
These reasons were Power, Money, Religion and Love.
Power: Henry was desperate for an heir and seeing as he had already got Anne Boleyn pregnant with possibly his male heir, then why should he stay with Catherine of Aragon? Without an heir then the Tudors rein on the throne would end, and Henry definitely didn't want that.
Money: Catholic Churches at that time were filled with expensive ornaments, and if Henry could knock them down then he would have all the money value that these ornaments possessed, and seeing as Henry had already bankrupted the country TWICE, he really needed that money so he could carry on with his expensive hobbies, such as hunting or jousting.
Religion: Henry was a strong Roman Catholic and didn't want to go against his religion by getting a divorce: he wasn't that rebellious, but as well as that and just as equally he wanted to get rid of Catherine of Aragon. Sneakily, he found a way to get a divorce without upsetting the Church.
Love: Think about it. Catherine of Aragon was ugly, old, and despite anything else, couldn't have babies. Of course he wanted to get rid of her. And then came a younger, prettier woman who he had accidentally got pregnant. He wanted a divorce, as he was in love with Anne Boleyn.
With these reasons combined, Henry VIII came to the conclusion that he would break from Rome, and create The Church of England.
