North Korea is an autocratic, dynastic, militaristic, communist, quasi-theocratic, hermit state.

That is about as succinct as I think it is possible to be on a subject as complex as North Korea.

Right after the Atomic bomb was dropped on Japan in August 1945, the Soviet Union (Russia) declared war on Japan, and invaded Japanese conquered territory, of which Korea was one. After WWII, the Soviets took North Korea and the US (free world) took South Korea. Five years later, the Soviets supplied North Korea and supported them in their efforts to re-take their southern cousin, during the Korean War 1950-1953. Which they failed to do.

Incorrect. North Korea has a dictatorship, which means they cannot vote on who rules them. South Korea is the democracy. Although, if you mean vote on something that has no impact on the North Korean government, and just voting on who has to make dinner, then it's completely legal.

Who decides what should be produced in North Korea?

Kim Il Sung was the first president beginning in the late 1950's.

He was placed into power by the USSR.

Kim Il Sung is actually the Eternal president according to the current North Korean Constitution even though he's been deceased since 1994

Japan gained military, political, and economic strength. It then sought to eliminate the extraterritorial rights of foreigners.

Korea Standard Time is 9 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

After the divide at the 17th parallel splitting Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh's communist forces were set up just north of the line. So, to the south the United States, and France, set up an Anticommunist government under Ngo Dinh Deim.

When the Soviet Union occupied the north of the Korean Peninsula following World War II, they allowed these Communist Rebels to create a national government there. Koreans sometimes have accused Japan occupied Korea by force. Also some koreans who have had hardly any formal schooling say Japan invaded Korea during the war. However, their complaints about war issues are related to Japan were completely wrong.

(Part1)Many Koreans have accused Japan of receiving much terrible treatment to Korean people by an old Japanese government during the war. Of course there are few war experienced people. Many Koreans who have claimed have not had any experience of the Pacific War. In other words they have only learned war history of modern Korea which started the year of 1900. However, their complaints about war issues are related to Japan were wrong.

(Part2)They claimed that Japan dominated Korean people during the war, and so on. However, these stories have no conclusive evidence. Are their criticisms true? If they want to get right information about the war history between Japan and Korea, they can get many facts from internet or books these days. Nevertheless, they have been maintaining and attacking Japan's old acts in Korea since the World War II finished. This is very strange.

(Part3)In fact their stories are wrong for three reasons. I want to give you the three facts about history between Korea and Japan.　 First of all I would like to explain about the Japan-Korea Annexation. The Iljinhoe (一進会) was a nation-wide pro-Japan organization in Korea. The party thought that Korea could not develop capitalism on its own, and demanded a merger with the Japanese Empire.

(Part4)Meanwhile, Japan needed to defend itself from Western countries such as Soviet, so the newly modernized Meiji government of Japan turned to Korea because various Western countries actively competed for influence, trade, goods, and territory in East Asia in the late 19th and early 20th century. On 22 August 1910, Japan effectively annexed Korea with the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty signed by Lee Wan-Yong, Prime Minister of Korea. However, Korean people said Japan occupied Korea forcedly.

(Part5)Secondly, Korea has claimed that they suffered by old Japanese government, but Japan established the infrastructure actually. In fact Korea was a very poor country in the early of the 19th century; so many foreigners said Korea was entirely unsanitary. The Japanese government created transportation infrastructure and official buildings such as schools, hospitals and post offices, and so on. Koreans extended their lives span in deed.

(Part6)However, Koreans have not learned the fact in schools under the political reasons. Finally, I want to show you the data of participation of military and some facts after the war finished. Japan and Korea started only a volunteer military system in 1938. (Part7)洪思翊, Hong Sa Ik, he was Korean, who was Lieutenant General of Japanese Imperial Army. 朴春琴, Park Chun-geum was a member of House of Representatives in Tokyo. A seat in the House of Representatives was an elective post. He was elected twice from his district in Tokyo. Many Korean men joined the Japanese Imperial Army, and some Korean experts supported their countries because Korea was the same country as Japan, but they did not pay any postwar reparations to Asian countries.

(Part8)Not only this, Korea received Japan's oversea assets which were in Korea and 8 hundred million dollars as war reparations from Japan in 1965. In conclusion, Koreans accusations are completely incorrect for these reasons. Therefore what they say is an absurd story.

South Korea is operated as a Democracy and Presidential Republic. Their current President is Lee Myung-bak , who was elected to office in 2008.

North Korea is operated as Juche Socialist Republic, Single-party Communist Sate. Their Eternal President and official leader, Kim II-sung, is dead and has been since 1994. Their current "Supreme Leader" is II-sung's son, Kim Jong-il.

In North Korea, the leadership is a hereditary dictatorship (Complete power from parent to sibling). Leaders are chosen by the current leader before their time of death. For example the current leader is Kim Jong-il, and he hasn't formally announced it (But it is speculated to be true) that his heir is Kim Jong-un. Hope this helps!

North of the 38th, the Soviet Union accepted the surrender of Japanese forces, leading to the creation of a Communist North Korea.

You have to be 17 years of age, a citizen of the country, abide by the law, and vote for the party you're a member of.

Korea was persuaded by Russia to become a communist country yet some parts of korea did not agree with this form of government so they started a entire war they ended up becoming seperate countries afterwards

If the United Nations had not stepped in, chances are South Korea would not exist.

Korea would be one, united country, which would most likely be run by the current dictator of North Korea.

The United States officially staged an intervention in the Korean War on 27 June 1950, backed by the United Nations. The US continued to aid South Korea until the armistice agreement halted military conflict on 27 July 1953, effectively involved in the Korean War for a total of 3 years and 1 month.

North Korea had been urged into invading South Korea by Soviet's (Russia's) Joseph Stalin. Stalin supplied MIG-15 jet fighters, T-34 tanks, and tons of Soviet Artillery and small arms, along with ammunition and fuel for the war machines.

Korea has been "NOT BLESSED" by being geographically located between warring nations nearly all of it's existence; China, Russia, and Japan.

Again, due to Korea's location, the conflicts involving those countries have led to easy access by outside nations such as Germany, France, or the United States, due to Korea being a peninsula, thus allowing ANY nation to reach Korea by SEA. If Korea had been a "Land Locked Country", any fighting would be RESTRICTED to the surrounding nations. But the peninsula of Korea is open to any nation with a navy.

Korea was a colony of Japan prior to WW2. WW2 brought the Soviets into war with Japan which involved Korea. Japan's defeat in WW2 enabled the Soviets (Russians) to occupy NORTH KOREA; while the US/Allies preserved South Korea.

Kim II-Sung was leader from 1948-1994(death)

One important date is Hangul Day, which is the celebration of the creation of Korean writing, called hangul. In early Korea, there was no writing system native to Korea. The only writing system was Chinese, but it did not work very well, and it was difficult to learn for commoners. Most people were illiterate because of this. The king during that time, King Sejong (1397-1450), decided that there needed to be a national writing system native to Korea. Him, along with several scholars, created hangul, which means great script. This new language consisted of characters that could be put together to make words. Hangul Day is held on October 9. It is called Chosongul Day in North Korea and is held on January 15.

It all started after WWII when Russia and the US chose what to do with Korea. They divided it by the 38th parallel, North going to Soviet Russia (communist) and South going to the US (democracy). This led to the division of the country and government.
