stanley is the main character whos nickname is caveman. he got in trouble for stealing a pair of shoes but is later found innocent. mr. pendenski and mr.sir are the ones in charge other than the mean warden. hector, or zero has no family and does not know how to read or write. xray is the leader of the group his real name is rex, armpits is theodore, squids is alan, magnets is jose, zigzags is ricky. all of these characters have to dig holes because they did something bad. little do they know that the warden is just lookin for treasure. in this book, the warden wil do anything to get her money. itt might even put zero and stanleys life in danger!!!!:)

To be honest, the Warden doesn't really develop as a character.

Throughout the book she maintains the same rude, adamant personality, and constantly refuses to make the right decisions, instead choosing the complete opposite. Being the protagonist of the story, well in any story, they don't really develop as a character. Instead is shown as the never changing villain, and nothing else.

Close to when the book ends, in chapter 49, Sam tells a person to get some of his onion drink in their system because yellow-spotted lizards don't like onions, and, lucky for Stanely and Zero, they were on nothing but onions and muddy water for a week.

Zero's name was significant because the others believed he had nothing going on in his name. The name is ironic, however, because Zero is one of the characters with the most heart.

the book holes by Louis sachar is a really nice book. the book is mostly about this boy name Stanley Yelnats that has to go to this camp name Camp Green Lake that use to be the largest lake in Texas and now it is dried up.But back back then they were tring to find this treasure that is in part of the dried up lake. So the warden wants to make all the people that were sent to camp green lake, has to dig up holes to find the treasure...........

Zigzag attacked Stanley because Stanley was putting dirt in Zigzag's side of the hole and Zigzag was getting mad and that caused Zigzag to hit Stanley with the shovel.
