The sign originally read "HOLLYWOODLAND", and its purpose was to advertise a new housing development in the hills above the Hollywood district of Los Angeles by developer H.J. Whitley.
The sign was officially dedicated on 13 July 1923. It was not intended to be permanent. Restoration company Bay Cal Painting says on its website that the expected life was to be about a year and a half, but after the rise of the American cinema in Los Angeles it became an internationally recognized symbol, and was left there.
The cinema industry had been scattered around the country, chiefly on the east coast and producers were attracted to southern California by a longer filming season due to the ideal weather.

This will tell you all the inside scoop of what is happening to Hollywood Undead and 9 Lives.
Facebook probably won't let the page stay up for long due to copy right reasons, but the information displayed on this page is straight from his fan site, the interviews, and his mouth. I get up close and personal with the news on Hollywood Undead. Not too many people joined this page because of the name, but I had to make it something like the name it has now or else Facebook will notice it and tear it down because of the truth it shows.
Good luck,
Thanks for being a Hollywood Undead Fan! :)
They closed it because people who wanted to be actors and they didn't get the part so they went up there when they were mad the jumped of the cliff where the Hollywood sign is now
Certain factors made American culture more accessible to the rest of the world. Here is a summary of some important ones:
* The explosion of Hollywood movies were translated and seen worldwide. Certain nations have special schools for people to translate English in USA movies into native languages;
* The vast number of military bases that at one time were virtually all around the world after WW2. This excludes the Soviet Bloc of course;
* The products such as cigarettes and soft drinks like Coca-Cola brought with them TV commercials advertising such "American" products;
* The vast number of world celebrities that made America their homes. Their fans from other nations followed them and the American culture they now had;
* The liberal immigration policies that at one time were communicated back to their home nations with information about the USA.
Cali.. but if your talking Film industry..it was actually Jacksonville Fl.. then LA
its important because without Hollywood there wouldnt be stars and a place to act and all that fancy stuff.
The first official use of the name "Hollywood" was on February 1, 1887 when H.H. Wilcox filed a deed and map of property he sold.
Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality on November 14, 1903.
In 1910, town officials voted for Hollywood to be annexed into the City of Los Angeles, in order to have access to an adequate water supply and a sewage system.
The first studio in Hollywood was established by the New Jersey-based Centaur Co. in 1911, called the Nestor Studio. By 1915, the majority of American films were being produced in the Los Angeles area and by 1920, Hollywood was world famous as the center of the US film industry.
They aren't disliked, but they do wonder why they vote the way they do. It is the politics that they don't like. Many people in Hollywood grew up in Midwestern families and towns. Very few people are actually native to California in California.
