Why did Hitler think jews were not worthy to live?

Prior to and during the Second World War, Hitler provided many reasons in public and in private for seeing the Jews as not worthy to live, with some being political, others social, still others scientific, and so forth. The record seems clear, however, that at the root of all of these reasons was something else entirely, namely, a very deep and indomitable (and violent) prejudice.

What is the diffrence between a jewish ghetto and a nazi ghetto?

The term "Nazi ghetto" is misleading. Nazis were not placed in a ghetto, but rather this is a term to refer to the "ghettos for Jews built by the Nazis" in comparison to the historic Jewish ghettos throughout Europe.

One of the fundamental differences between Jewish ghettos prior to the 19th century and those instituted by the Nazis was the size. The Nazi ghettos were larger in physical area, but denser in terms of population (because Jews from the countryside were pushed into the city ghettos).

A more noticeable difference was that the Nazi ghettos were completely sealed off from the rest of the city. While historic ghettos sometimes had curfews, during the day Jews could usually leave, do business, and generally interact with Non-Jews. Since the point of the Nazi ghettos was to quarantine the Jews from the rest of the population, they were unable to ever leave the ghetto. Concrete Walls and fences were erected in order to lock the Jews in and these were monitored by Nazi German soldiers.

Another difference was the leadership structure of the ghetto. The historic ghettos were given license by the Christian Kings to self-organize as long as they paid taxes and punished crimes perpetrated against Christians. This meant that the Kahal (Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community) made laws and helped organize the area. In the Nazi ghettos, the Nazis created a mockery of the Kahal called the Judenrat which was a council of Jews responsible for implementing Nazi policy within the ghetto and submitting lists of names for deportation to the Death Camps. The lack of Jewish autonomy and set up for the Holocaust are also key differences.

What did Hitler favor at first as the solution to the Jewish problem and why did it fail to satisfy Hitler's demands?

Hitler at first wanted to have all the Jews in German territory deported, with the island of Madagascar being the choice Hitler wanted, but this proved to be unrealistic, therefore Hitler and the Nazis had to resort to other measures to get rid of the Jews.

Hitler also wanted to create the "perfect race" which was a pretty bad idea considering everyone has their flaws and no-one is perfect.

Can IBM be blamed for the Holocaust?

Prior answer was factually incorrect and suggested IBM's subsidiary was taken over before the War. That was false. The War began in 1939 in Europe and Dec1941 in US. The subsidiary was placed into technical enemy receivership in 1942. But the company under the micromanagement of its president Thomas J Watson began to organize the Holocaust from the first moments of the Hitler regime in January 1933. IBM organized and made efficient all six phases of the Holocaust: 1) Identification, 2) Exclusion from Society, 3) Confiscation, 4) Ghettoization, 5) Deportation and 6) Extermination. Now anyone can pretend these are not the facts, but no one at IBM anywhere in the world will not deny these well-established facts. Extensive quotations from the actual IBM documents can be read in IBM and the Holocaust in any country in the world.

___

That's like saying Westinghouse caused Thanksgiving because a turkey was roasted in an oven that company made. IBM did not have anything to do with the holocaust. The company's German subsidiary was taken over by the Nazis just before the war and the punch-card data processing provided by the machines was used to keep records of all types. This may have made the holocaust more efficient, but it certainly didn't cause it.

____

Agreed. Someone obviously has a grudge against IBM.

Guilt presupposes responsibility. When there's a murder, does one also prosecute the person who sold the murderer ammunition for his firearm, and does one prosecute the person who gave the murderer's windscreen a wipe as he was driving to the scene of the planned crime? Obviously NOT, because they can't be considered responsible and they are far, far too remote from the crime.

IBM's "participation" in the Holocaust can in no way be equated to something like I.G. Farben or even Krupp Industries. As mentioned above, the German IBM subsidiary was indeed taken over by the Nazi regime shortly after the beginning of the war, and thus removed the US parent from any decision-making around sales in Germany. IBM (the parent company in the USA) did continue to sell parts and items to the German sub-unit, but this ceased by about late 1940.

The fact that IBM machinery was used to help organize the Holocaust can be in no way blamed on IBM (America). IBM machinery was used for a whole host of projects, and knowing that they would used to tabulate Holocaust victims is a fairy tale (requiring the use of a magical crystal ball in 1939). Remember - the Holocaust didn't really begin until about 1942. There were mass murders before that, but the organized extermination effort really came into being around the time of the Wannsee Conference. It is this effort that used the IBM machinery.

So, how can IBM be responsible for something that hadn't yet begun yet when they stopped selling Germany parts, and for which there was no realistic idea that their equipment could be used to aid? Even if you could somehow blame IBM for those two impossible predictions, assigning them blame for the Holocaust is no less fanciful than stating that pencil makers who sold pencils to the Nazi regime in 1944 were responsible for aiding the Holocaust. The connection is just far too removed and tenuous to be rationally made.

How did the long history of anti-semitism in Europe help Hitler carry out his plan for the Jews?

You appear to be using anti-semitism as meaning anti-jewish - it's not and neither is there a long history of anti-jewishness in Europe (which incudes 20 States and has 3.5 times the population of the USA and has been tolerant of the Jewish religion for centuries)

If you must trace anti-semitism from Europe and you accept that anti-semitism is anti-Middle-Eastern (Arab) it stretches back to the crusades of the 10th century (for christianity against the middle eastern arab nations).

So to put you straight Hitler (Austrian) targetted the jews by blaming them for all the economic and social troubles faced by Germany from the beginning of the 20th century (even for the period of the Great War 1914-18) not through a non-existant sense of European anti-semitism .

_______

The meaning of a word is not its etymology. The word antisemitism was coined in the 1870s specifically as an 'upmarket' term for hatred of the Jews as a race and because the antisemites were fed up with being called Jew baiters. The word is never used of Arabs and other speakers of Semitic languages.

Oh, and by the way, Jews were demonized in Europe from the time of the First Crusade. Please find out the fact before 'putting people straight'.

This addition is at best thought-provoking and at worst, irritating and rude. I don't accept your statement about etymology - the study of the sources and development of words is essentialto understand a question fully. You question my re-definition of the term anti-semitism, give no source for the 'coining' of the 'new' word antisemitism, suggest it was an 'upmarket' reference why? because it contained more than four syllables/ who coined it specifically in reation to Jews? How are you able to support this tosh? Oh, and by the way, if you want to learn more about Semites and The Middle East, Read Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T. E. Lawrence - I did, and that's why I have the facts you deny me.
