Is honey better for your digestion than sugar?

Honey is composed mostly of the simple sugar fructose, whereas table sugar (sucrose) consists of a disaccharide of fructose and glucose. Fructose alone requires no digestion. It enters the glycolytic pathway unchanged. Sucrose requires the lysis on the bond joining the two sugars of which it is composed. Saccharase as it is sometimes called or, technically, sucrase is such an efficient enzyme that there is probably no one walking on the face of the earth who has either a deficiency of this enzyme or a defect in its operation. The question asks which of the two is better for your digestion. I don't know that either honey or table sugar is helpful to the digestion and if one or both are helpful to the digestion, neither do I know by what mechanism the one or the other assists digestion. One thing that is important, however is that both are hypotonic to the medium in which they arrive into the body so that for both an adequate amount of water should be included whenever these are consumed to promote rapid digestion and assimilation.

How do you separate wild honey from wax?

I recently removed half a dozen honeycombs from an area between floor boards. The bees were entering our house from a small hole in an outside wall. Since it was wintertime, there were no bees to contend with, so it was a relatively easy job. I successfully harvested 2 qts. of wonderful, golden honey. Try this:
Put the combs inside a large plastic or ceramic container to keep them clean and prevent a huge mess. Then cut sections of combs that have the honey inside into 2" wide pieces. Next, slice open one face of the comb to expose the honey. Stuff as many comb pieces into a large mason jar as it will hold. Then place the jar on a floor heater vent while the furnace is running- or if it's not wintertime you could use a double-boiler on the stove instead. Leave the jar set on the heat for a few hours until the honey collects at the bottom of the jar. Do not use a microwave! Next, use a wooden spoon to mash up the comb inside the jar. Put a doubled-up layer of cheesecloth over a strainer placed over a large glass measuring cup. Pour the honey out of the jar and into the cheesecloth. You may have to squeeze the cheesecloth to get more honey out, but don't squeeze too hard or you may get large pieces of comb too! Once all of the honey has been extracted from the jar, empty out the remaining wax into another container (you may want to melt it down later for candles, etc). Fill a clean jar with your strained honey and repeat the process until all of the combs have been emptied. Dispose of the combs that don't contain honey. Enjoy!
