Vicodin should not be given to 'calm' people down as you put it. It's for pain. It's normally given after the fact, ie, after surgery, after you broke a bone. You can give it before an office procedures, like biopsies, vasectomies, ect, for pain to come. It won't help with the anxiety. If you have surgery in the hospital in the OR, you don't need it because you'll be 'out' to feel pain. To 'calm' somebody, you need something for anxiety like Ativan, Restoril, Xanax, ect.

Do not take these two medications together. The should not cause any major problems, but it would be a waste of perfectly good hydrocodone. The antagonistic properties of Nubain will cancel out the effects of the hydrocodone. Also be careful taking Nubain if you have been on using hydrocodone (or other "true" opioids like oxycodone, morphine, etc.) for an extended period of time. Nalbuphine is a tricky substance. In someone who has had no exposure to other paikillers, it works like morphine, but will precipitate nasty withdrawal symptoms in opioid-tolerant individuals.

Overall, you shouldn't be on any pain medication for long periods of time, but if you are only taking one per day it should not hurt you.

The closest medication would be Tramacet (Tramadol HCL 37.5mg/Paracetamol 325) or maybe Codydramol (Dihydrocodeine 7.5-10mg/Paracetamol 500mg). None of these two are close enough though to be called equivalent to Vicodin.

Vicodin is a mixture of Hydrocodone (not to be confused with Dihydrocodeine) and paracetamol.

Codydramol is a lot weaker than Vicodin - hence a 7.5mg DHC/500mg Paracetamol containing product cannot be bought OTC in the UK, a prescription is needed from your GP. Vicodin is also controlled prescription only drug and could not be bought OTC even if it was in the UK.

Percocet and norco are both opiate medicine for pain. They are closely related to each other but not the same drug. Percocet is Oxycodone the same med in long acting oxycotin.
