I took that much hydrocodone or more, in addition to other longer acting opiates, daily for pain management for nearly 6 months. Medically speaking, it is safe to take 50mg of hydrocodone per day if you have a tolerance to opiates. Tolerance develops when one takes significant amounts of opiates (hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, heroin) frequently for an extended period of time. However, that much hydrocodone could cause side effects such as constipation, drowsiness, itchyness, sleep disturbance, irritability, decreased libido, and more. If you take that dose every day for an extended period you may also become physically dependent on hydrocodone. That means that if you suddenly stop or significantly decrease your dose you may experience uncomfortable flu like withdrawal symptoms. This commonly includes runny nose, body pain, sweats, chills, hot flashes, nausea, diarrhea, restlessness and more. So long as you avoid acute overdose there is no danger in taking 50mg of hydrocodone on a daily basis. However, to my knowledge, there is no preparation of hydrocodone that has hydrocodone as the only active ingredient. The vast majority of pills containing hydrocodone also contain APAP (acetaminophen, paracetamol, & Tylenol are also names for this same chemical), which can be very toxic to the liver. Pills like Vicodin, Lortab, Norco, and all of their generics contain APAP in varying amounts. For example a 5/500 Vicodin contains 5mg of hydrocodone and 500mg of APAP, while a 10/325 Norco contains 10mg of hydrocodone and 325mg of APAP. There are dozens of different preparations available with doses ranging from 5mg - 10mg of hydrocodone combined with 325mg - 1000mg of APAP. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the maximum safe acute dose of APAP is 6g (6000mg) in one day. The FDA has also stated that if APAP is to be taken every day for an extended period, then the maximum safe daily dose is 4g (4000mg) per day. However, recent research has shown that even 4g of APAP per day has a negative effect on the liver. So, even though the hydrocodone itself is not dangerous, the other active ingredients in the pill syou are taking may be. If you are taking this medication to treat chronic pain then talk to your doctor about trying different, longer acting, pain medications that contain no APAP and will require you to dose less frequently while providing better control over your pain. -Aces N 8s

In my own opinion, I dont think the two combined produces a harmful effect. The only harmful thing you are doing is inhaling smoke. Remember no one has ever died from marijuana alone, but from reading around and friends past experiences marijuana actually intensifies the effects of some opiates and benzodiazepines. Remember to use in moderation, and be careful. Altough millions of people smoke marijuana it is still illegal so one must be very careful if you plan to use this drug. There are no known harmful effects from smoking marijuana. In fact, you can pretty much mix marijuana with any drug. As far as mixing it with Xanax and Vicodin, it can provide an unexplainable amazing high (IF USED IN MODERATION!!). I would recommend 5-10mg Vicodin with .5-1mg Xanax for your first time. I'm an experienced user whose drug of choice was actually much stronger than Vicodin. Thankfully I've backed off and my tolerance has lowered in the past few months, so this combination is even wonderful for myself. Also, the stronger the weed, the more pronounced your high on Vicodin and Xanax will be as well. I'm actually on this combo right now, so yes, a side effect is an extremely relaxed buzzing as well as an interest to be engaged in other activities. It makes ANYthing interesting! Also, make sure you have some food in the house, because munchies will occur and food will taste amazing! If Vicodin makes you queezy, weed and Xanax helps that immensely! If you get paranoid during a weed high, Xanax helps that as well... so yes, my opinion is these drugs (if, once again, used in moderation of course), harmonize beautifully.

It all depends on tolerance. If you have a tolerance for oxycodone, then lortabs and oxycodone will cost more than methadone. If you have a methdone tolerance, then the methadone will cost more. If you have no tolerance for any of them then the cheapest would be oxycontin-type oxycodone. Prices vary but oxycontin is usually about $20 for 40mgs, methadone is usually $5 for 10mgs, and lortabs are 1 dollar per mg.

YES you should worry! Technically you should not drink excessively if you have sleep apnea. And the warnings for hydrocodone say to consult your doctor if you have sleep apnea. So you should definitely NOT mix the two together period, and especially if you have sleep apnea. It could slow your breathing so much that you have that chance of dying in your sleep. As a general rule, you should never mix alcohol with any sort of pills that have an hepatic metabolism, ventilatory depression, or Disulfiran effect. There are lots of pills that you can mix with alcohol but you should first know wich are these pills. Besides, you should remember that both, Hydrocodone and Alcohol (Ethanol) have an hepatic metabolism (liver); so you could also get heptotoxicity if you mix them, and eventually liver failure, so be careful.

Ask your doctor and your phrmacist about this before you do anything. In my personal experience, yes. I was prescribed generic hydrocodone and acetaminophen, comparable to vicodin, for tooth pain, and I take Gabapentim regularly to manage my neurasthesia (I am a stroke survivor). The Vicodin was effective for the pain, but the intoxicant side effect of Vicodin seemed to be increased by the Gabapentin -- not too surprising, as both medications work upon neural receptors, though I have no idea what, if any, relation exists between GABA receptors and opiate receptors. Of course, my experience alone doesn't indicate that the combination would necessarily be helpful to you or even safe. I did search the net for info about this combination, and did not find much, which is actually good, since bad news is usually easy to find.

You could take the in the same day but not at the same time. They are both benzodiazepines that basically are used for similar conditions. You definitely should not take both at the same time as the effects are additive. It would be like taking an overdose. However they can probably be substituted for each other. It also depends on the doses, and if the Dr prescribed them both for you. A low dose of esch one combined would be totally different than a high dose of both. Check with MD & pharmacist as well.But generally when it comes to these 2 meds, it's one or the other.

I have heard some anecdotal reports of some doctors prescribing low dose namenda with vicodin to prevent or reverse opiod tolerance so it should be safe as long as the dose is kept low.

Hydrocodone is slightly less efficacious (strong) than morphine is, and is typically combined with acetaminophen. This mixture makes it more easier for a doctor to prescribe than morphine due to its scheduling by the DEA (C-III -vs- C-II). There are efforts to make ANY medication with hydrocodone in it C-II.

Oxycontin is just a time release version of oxycodone. I take oxycodone 15mg, which is fast acting, you can get Oxycontin in 60 or 80mg but it is made to work over a longer time period, some people get into trouble with Oxycontin because they break time release by chewing it, this is very dangerous to put that much oxycodone in your system at once. The only way a test would detect the "difference" is by the amount in your system but not the drug. If you chew up an Oxycontin 60 it will show up the same as if you took 4 oxycodone 15mg. It's the same drug, just different concentrations.

If you mean "codeine", then you can overdose if you take them together.....they are chemically similar, with Hydrocodone being a synthetic version and codeine being the naturally-occurring one.

No, they are not. They both contain a narcotic analgesic combined with the nonnarcotic analgesic acetaminophen (Tylenol). Lortab contain hydrocodone and acetaminophen and Tylenol #3 contain codeine and acetaminophen. A drug test would screen for both codeine and hydrocodone.
