Who is the winningest team in hockey?

AnswerIn my true sporting opinion, the greatest ever sports team in ANY sport would have to be the New Zealand All Blacks, rugby's most successful team ever.

In over a hundred years of rugby, the All Blacks hold an 84% winning record against all oppostion played. They have also won 74% of all test matches played, and hold a winning record against EVERY TEST NATION IN THE WORLD (including the British & Irish Lions, and the World XV).

Romania (the best team in Eastern Europe), Canada (the best team in North America), Japan (the best in Asia), and other World Rugby Heavyweights Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Argentina, Samoa, and Fiji have never beaten New Zealand.

The average margin when playing the All Blacks is 25-12- that is, they have scored more than twice the amount of points than all opposition combined.

New Zealand is so good, that they have never been ranked lower than 3rd on the World Rankings. In 1987, they were crowned the first ever Rugby World Champions beating France in the final 29-9.

Since 1996, when rugby became professional, the All Blacks have played 149 games, winning 121. Their victories have lead to 9 Tri-Nations Championships in 13 years, play-off appearances in every World Cup to date, a first ever test series victory in South Africa, 7 undefeated tours to Europe; including 2 Grand Slams Tours(when a team plays England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales in succesive weeks and win), a test series whitewash against the British & Irish Lions, a World record 30 test victories in a row on home soil (spanning five years), the Bledisloe Cup, and the Hillary Shield.

Only five test nations IN HISTORY have ever beaten the All Blacks- Australia, South Africa, France, England, and Wales (who have not beaten New Zealand since 1954). The most successful team to ever play New Zealand is South Africa (winning just 40% of the time), while Australia have won the most times (39 victories from 132 matches).

This small, tiny nation boasts a player pool of just 90,000- yet they provide the bulk of the Rugby Hall of Fame.

Not even the great Brazilian Football Team can match the proud winning record of New Zealand. The same applies to Canada in Ice Hockey, Australia in Cricket, or any professional sports team from the United States.

What year were hockey helmets invented?

Helmets were made mandatory in 1971 but were in use by many players as far back as the 1940s. Hall of Fame Catcher Roger Bresnahan played between 1897 - 1915. Bresnahan most notable contributions to the game were in protective equipment. In 1905 after getting "beaned" in the head with a baseball began experimenting with head gear similar to the leather football helmet of the period that were made by A.J. Reach. Sliced vertically: one half for covering the left side of a right handed batter's head, the other for the lefty hitter. Two years later in 1907 he devised catcher's shin guards.

He was the only catcher using them. Ignoring the ridicule, it was not thought to be gentlemanly to use them. By 1909 the design was refined, and became accepted, and more wildly used. I will leave a link below for more information. -Steven KeyMan

What are ice hockey sticks made out of?

there are several steps that go into making goaltenders pads, materials and techniques have changed over the years but the basic principle has not. the process starts by first designing the goalie pads, this is done by creating templates and patterns which later will be cut to specification by the manufacturer or customer. the customer chooses color, size of pad and trim , the manufacturer has pre made patterns and templates to help him create the pad.this is where colors are chosen and specifications are noted, like size , width, and length the templates are then placed over the material, the material is usually a waterproof synthetic or leather depending on the manufacturer or customer these pieces are then cut according to the template. this is a very important process since the measurements have to be accurate for the pad to be completed properly, any mistake will not allow the pad to be stitched correctly together. once all the templates and patterns have been cut the stitching process begins, this is done by large sewing machines that are operated by a worker, this is precise work and the stitching has to be on point in order for quality to be maintained. the finished pieces are once again checked for tolerances and they move on to the next process. a worker gathers all the finished stitching and begins stuffing the pockets made by the stitching machine. shredded foam and synthetic materials are more commonly used, although some manufacturers still employ some deer hair for stuffing , mainly because the impact of the puck will be absorbed easier, thus lessening the chance of a rebound. After the stuffing process is completed the finished pieces are then gathered again by another worker. he will begin which is considered the hardest part of the assembly. at this point the pieces are put on a machine that will assist the worker in hand stitching the pads by hand, this is done by hand to ensure all the pieces fit together properly and also to ensure that any correction necessary can be done before the final stitching is completed, this process is called lasting. after all pieces have been stitched together , the worker is ready to apply the backing. the backing is a panel of moisture resistant fabric , usually waterproof but also comfortable, the goalies' legs and shins will rest on this material, it will absorb and wisp away the sweat but will not add bulk to the pad.this material is also hand stitched manually. the worker will then add a knee cradle and a thigh protector, these will provide protection and comfort to the goalie. these pieces are usually made to be adjusted by the goalie to his liking. after the backing is applied, the pad is checked for errors and fit, this is the last time any mistakes will be able to be corrected. at this point workers add hardened foam blocks and wedges to give the pad rigidity and blocking stability, these foam panels also add comfort and protection to the goalie, at this time any necessary stuffing is finished and the pockets are then stitched closed. the assembled pad is then run under a machine called a pneumatic stitcher, this machine will run a small leather or synthetic material all along the edge of the pad, this will seal the pad and give the pad its shape, side protectors and calf protectors are then added and stitched by hand. straps and buckles are riveted onto the pad, the pad is almost finished! the pad is checked once again for any errors, if any the pad will have to be disassembled and depending on the error it will have to be discarded.the pad is now ready for brand stitching and company logos. usually both legs are made at the same time with one or two workers on a set. the goalie pad is truly a work of art, many hours are put into this awesome piece of equipment, new and exciting materials have added longevity and quality ensuring many years of service and enjoyment.

Why are there seven games in the Stanley cup?

Seven games is the maximum number of games that can be played before at least one team must have won four games in total (where all games must end in a winner and loser).

The schedule begins as four games, as this is the minimum number required for a team to win the series outright. After these four are played, extra games are added until it is possible for one team to win the series by winning all remaining games, with seven being the maximum number required to ensure a team has won the series.

As to why the limit is four wins, and thus seven games required, instead of say 3 and 5 or 11 and 21: because that is the amount the original organisers chose.
