Can you have an IQ of 116?

Sure.

IQ is a score of mental ability.

The "average" is 100, but the scale is not linear, like on a ruler.

The span of IQ scores from 85 to 115 accounts for about 68% of the population, the span from 70 to 130 accounts for about 95% of the population.

If you have an IQ of 116, you're *just* in the (95-68) = 27% of the population.

Anyone with a score below 70, or with a score above 130, is in a rare group that are only about 5% of the total population.

What is the intelligence that is measured by IQ testing?

Iq tests (usually) measure ones ability to associate. Which I personally believe to be the key to human life from the arts such as music or comedy where alot of metaphors are used to associate or represent a point or idea. Association also can be traced as far back to the hominids in the plains Africa where some would associate the rustle of grass and branches to predators and would more then likely run without looking back and then there were ones that associated it to the wind or Some other non-threatening force and more then probably ended up dead. Association is a beautiful thing it's in everything we do from our basic survival to solving day to day problems by associating them with past experiences. Though some (including myself) like to think that iq tests don't measure all forms of intelligence, I personally believe association in one form or another would have some roll to play in all areas of intelligence

How high is and excellent IQ score?

The IQ rating scale is built with a mathematical comparison of your mental age with your chronological age, and the result is multiplied by 100 for normalization. 70% of the population fall between 85 and 115. Only 0.5% have a score over 140.

IQ Ratings of Over 140 - Genius or near genius

IQ Ratings of 120 to 140 Highly intelligent

IQ Ratings of 110 to 119 Very intelligent

IQ Rating of 90 to 109 Normal or average intelligence

IQ Ratings of 80 to 89 Dullness

IQ Rating of 70-79 Borderline deficiency

This is one of many processes for measuring IQ, first developed in 1916.
