Where is the air conditioning low pressure service port on a 2003 Jaguar X-Type?

It is right up against the passenger side strut tower. The low pressure line (large one) has a tube that T's off of the main section that brings the port right up to you for easy access. There is a wiring harness that has it hidden a little bit. The high pressure port is near it too but it's against the firewall on passenger side. It took me a while to see it. But when I did see it...I couldn't believe I had overlooked it after searching for hours.

This reset procedure works on the X-Type

Service Instruction:

8 . The cluster should display (within three seconds) the warning message 'RESETTING SERVICE MODE'.

9 . Keep both buttons pressed until the warning message changes to 'SERVICE MODE RESET' (after ten seconds).

10 . Once the message is displayed the buttons may be released â€" sequence is now complete.

11 . If a Service Required message was displayed prior to the reset sequence, cycle the ignition to 'Off' and then back to Ignition position II and check that the message is no longer displayed.

Replace the headlights on a jaguar x type?

I hope you are talking about the headlight bulb and not the headlight assembly.

On my 2003 X-Type, I first pop the hood up. You will see a black plastic cover behind the headlight. There is a metal latch that holds the cover. Pull the metal latch to losen and remove the black cover. Careful, the metal latch may drop off the black plastic. Now you have access to the headlight bulb. There are two metal wires hoilding the light bulb. Unhook the metal wires, replace the bulb, and hook it back in place.

Good luck!

How do you replace the water pump in 2003 Jaguar Type X?

I have a 2002 x-type 2.5l. This is actually surprisingly easy and inexpensive. This job should take about an hour. The water pump is on the left side of the vehicle on the motor next to the battery. There is a small belt connected to three pulleys. The small black pulley on the silver housing is the water pump. I was able to find an after market water pump at my local auto parts store for around $60. They are online ranging from $25-$300. I would get one that includes a new gasket. You will need a 10mm and 8mm socket.

First take the top of the battery housing off. Then unbolt the battery hold down and the battery wires (with a 10mm socket) and remove the battery and set it aside. Also make certain to also set aside the bolts that tie down the battery. Now the rest of the housing for the battery will lift right out. As you take it out, make note as to where the vent tube that was connected to the battery goes. There is also a small wire block hooked to the battery housing.

With the battery out you now have completely exposed the water pump. First remove the three bolts holding down the large black pulley with your 8mm socket. Take the pulley, belt and bolts and set them aside (I like putting the bolts back in their holes for safe keeping). Now with the 8mm socket, remove all 8 of the bolts holding the water pump in place. (I'm taking into consideration that the fluid has already been drained or has run out). Remove the water pump and the gasket. Wash out the cavity of any particles and be certain the surface is clean.

Replace the gasket and the water pump. Some people use a gasket cement I prefer not to and replace it dry. Then put back the 8 bolts and hand tighten them in their appropriate location (there are 2 long bolts). Now tighten the bolts down using the opposite tightening technique. Do not over tighten. Spin the water pump to be certain it spins freely. Clean up the area wiping up any grease or left over fluid. Replace the belt and the large pulley. Then replace the battery.

Refill the antifreeze with the appropriate type of antifreeze (refer to your owners manual). Start up the car to make certain all is working.

Now you're ready to drive in style.

Good luck.

What does the diagnostic code P1646 for a 2002 jaguar X-Type?

P1646 is a fault in the heater or sensor of the upstream O2 sensor. It is the light grey plug on the firewall behind the engine and leads to the sensor unit itself on the rear bank exhaust pipe. A replacement sensor is between (UK) £65 and £120 depending on where you go. Beware of the generic 4 wire sensors as their specs are not quite up to Jaguar's. BTW. It's a b*tch to get to and you need a 22mm socket with a slot for the wires to go through.

How do you repair a wheel bearing?

Usually, it'll be more acurate to talk about replace than repair.

For something like a car, a Wheel bearing consists of:

  • inner race
  • rollers or balls
  • outer race

The inner race is pressed onto an axle, the outer race is pressed into a hub, and the rollers/balls go inbetween them.

To replace, you pull the inner race off the axle and the outer race out of the hub. Press on/in the new parts and you're done.

The above is simplified, but the exact procedure varies from vehicle to vehicle, so I couldn't give it to you anyhow.

How do you fit new rear brake pads to an X type jaguar?

Ok, let's start with the front:

  1. Loosen both of these bolts. #1 on the lower part of the caliper, and the identical one on top of the caliper

2. Then remove the lower one completely

3. Pivot the caliper upwards

4. The pads will come right out

5. get yourself a wire brush and clean all of the areas where the metal parts of the pads on the edges meet the pad carrier.

6. Make sure that both sliders are nice and free. The sliders are the parts with the rubber accordion boots on them. If they're not, you'll need to get some dedicated caliper grease and relube them

7. Install new pads

8. Compress caliper piston with c-clamp or large vice-grips

9. Refasten caliper to pad carrier

Rears:

The rears are similar, but you're going to need a tool that not only pushes the caliper piston back into the piston bore, but rotate it as well. That tool looks like this:

You can usually find one of these at a local chain parts store.

Your only difference in the rear is as follows:

1) you'll need to remove the parking brake cable, by levering the parking brake lever with a screwdriver or small prybar, and release the cable end for the cable lever on the caliper.

2) remove the cable clip to allow the cable to come free of the caliper.

3) remove both small caliper to pad carrier bolts completely rather than pivoting the caliper up.

4) use your tool to turn the pads back into the caliper completely

5) replace pads.
