I own this same model and the problem i am having is the fuel pump keeps going out. From what I have found out, this is a common problem for this type and year.
The vacuum servo in the engine bay is usually the cause, the seal on this item, which looks like a round accordion, is leaking. To fix, put a plastic tie around each end so that the rubber is held snug to the two end plates.
If a leak was the issue this will fix it.
With over 100 horsepower this jaguar can really cruise. It is capable of going from 0-60 very, very fast so hold on to your hat while in one of these bad boys. The jaguar might look sleek and little however it is a beast under the hood.

Seriously? Is the oil dirty then the filter is dirty. Change it every 3-4k miles! On my 88 XJ6 I change it ever 4k miles since it does hold 8 quarts, on my 94 XJ12 I change it ever 6k miles as it holds 11 quarts. If you drive it like a race car in the dead of summer change it more often, if its really dirty before the miles are up then change it anyways. It's the most important thing to do for these old gals.

The headlight bulb on a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 is replaced by disconnecting the wiring harness and twisting the bulb assembly. The bulb can then be pulled from the lenses and a new bulb put in place.
Under the hood, above each headlight there are two white adjusters. You need an appropriate size Allen wrench to turn the adjusters. The outermost adjuster changes the height of the beam. The inner most adjuster changes the horizontal position of the beam.
I have a 1998 and had the same problem, the solution was really simple: just use your key to unlock all the doors and the fuel cap should unlock. It worked for me.
open the bonnet (hood) and look for the fuse box on the right (as you sit in the car). Just in front there is a small unit that looks like a solenoid. remove the small rubber cap which exposes a nut. Connect e positive power supply to the nut and then a negative to earth. Your electric locking will now work on the keyfob.
Two common failures in series 3 fuel systems are the fuel pump relay and the ignition switch.
