Is there a poem about Joan of Arc?
Sheer coincidence! I was thinking of one. It was written by a woman and connects various cities and battle sites in France with (The Good Joan) which I believe is the title of the poem. Each verse concludes- And Joan of Arc goes riding by! The only problem is there is maybe an excess of joie de vivre. My Dad thought (he ws Lutheran) it sounded like (while not a song) a parody on Happy Days are here Again!)The poem makes no mention of her martydom or tragic aspects of her life. Oh maybe there is too much wet blankets around let us live it up! The poem was not a song, though it could easily be sung to (Happy days are here again) which might give the wrong impression. There is a hymn called (Stainless Maiden) at first glance seems to be about the Girl Knight, but is actually about the Virgin Mary. Tyere are a number of poems about St.Joan, good luck in seeking them out. Somewhat oddly there are no canonical 9regular issue, approved) HYMNS about her in English. There are few hymns honoring specific saints though it can be argued Amazing Grace is about St.Paul and his conversion, and many other songs are similar, yet there are tons of Marian hymns- in fact the whole month of May is taken up with ASt.Mary, a little unbalanced if you ask me. There are probably good Ste Jeanne hymns-In French as she is the National saint. Likewise must be St.Patrick:s day Hymns in Ireland.

Joan of Arc certainly couldn't have done anything different, unless not to fight the English/Burgundians at all, which she felt she must do, and resulted in her capture and mock trial for heresy. The English, who feared and hated Joan,
who had soundly defeated them several times in battle, were going to have her executed for anything, no matter what!
Who could have done something for Joan was that ungrateful scumbag, King Charles VII, who could have either ransomed Joan, or traded either the Duke of Suffolk or Lord John Talbot, one of the greatest English commanders, who were both his prisoners at the time. But he just did nothing at all.
Most historians agree that Charles, who was very self-centered, was jealous of
Joan's tremendous military successes (which actually lead to Charles' coronation at Rheims in July, 1429), and of her great popularity with the people, especially the common people.
Charles, being a king, like all aristocrats greatly distrusted the common people, who eventually overthrew the king and his aristocracy in the French Revolution.

How is Joan of Arc remembered?
Gods Maiden
Joan of Arc (In French, Jeanne d'Arc) (1412 to 30 May 1431) is a national heroine of France and a saint of the Roman Catholic Church. She believed she had visions from God that told her to recover her homeland from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War.and that she also will never be married and that she will be put to death. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent her to the siege at Orleans as part of a relief mission. Initially treated as a figurehead by veteran commanders, she gained prominence when she lifted the siege in only nine days. Several more swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Rheims, which settled the disputed succession to the throne.
The renewed French confidence outlasted her own brief career. Court intrigues slowed further offensive action. She was wounded during an unsuccessful attempt to recover Paris and fell prisoner at a battle outside Compiegne the following spring. A politically motivated trial convicted her of heresy. The English regent John, duke of Bedford had her burnt at the stake in Rouen. She had been the heroine of her country at the age of seventeen. She died at just nineteen. Some twenty-four years later Pope Callixtus toast III reopened the case and a new finding overturned the original conviction. Her piety to the end impressed the retrial court. Pope Benedict XV canonized her on 16 May 1920.
Joan of Arc has remained an important figure in the collective imagination of Western culture. From Napoleon to the present, French politicians of all leanings have invoked her memory.
