When Caesar seized power, he concentrated power in his hands. Towards the end of his rule, the officers of state, who during the republic were elected, became the appointees of Caesar. He also introduced a personal religious cult based on a claim that his family descended for the goddess Venus. After Caesar's assassination there were further civil wars. Augustus emerged as the final victor and gained control of the army. He used his power to dismantle the institutions of the republic, establish is personal absolute rule and became the first Roman emperor, thus starting the 506-year period of rule by emperors. Augustus created his own state bureaucracy and continued both the practice of officials being appointees of the ruler and the claim that the imperial family (Augustus was the adoptive son of Caesar) was of divine descent.

A successful state which was not conquered by the Romans was the Parthian Empire, the third of the four pre-Islamic Persian empires.

Caesar's major obstacle were the optimates. Caesar was a popularis, which was a political faction which championed the cause of the poor and wanted to introduce reforms in their favour. The populares (plural of popularis) were opposed by the optimates, a conservative political faction which favoured the aristocracy and opposed the reforms. This aristocracy had also came to be seen as corrupt.

Caesar gained power by fighting a civil war against the optimates. Many of assassins were optimates.

Julius Caesar was not actually banished. He chose to leave Rome because he felt unsafe when Sulla won his civil war against Marius. Caesar had supported Marius and the popularis, a political faction which championed the cause of the poor. Sulla belonged to the opposing faction, the optimates, who were conservatives and supported the interests of the aristocracy. In 82 BC, when Sulla won the war he had thousands of opposition politicians executed and confiscated their properties.

Julius Caesar was stripped of his inheritance, his wife's dowry and his priesthood. He refused to obey an order to divorce Cornelia and went into hiding. Caesar left Rome and joined the army in Greece. When Sulla died in 78 BC he felt safe enough to return to Rome. He was broke because he had been stripped of his inheritance and became a lawyer public prosecutor and became famous for prosecuting former governors for corruption.

Gaius Julius Caeser was born on July 12th or 13th 100 B.C .in Rome. He died march 15th 44 B.C., he was 57 years old when he died. His fathers name was Gaius Julius Ceaser Sr. His mothers name was Aurelia Cotta. His dad died when julius was only 16 years old. With his dad dead his mother had a big influnce on his life. Caesers family was part of a Romes original aristocracy, called patrians. They were not rich and not particularly influencial. In 86 B.C. he ran for public office. He was appointed flamen dialis and he was the leader of Rome. He was named dictator for life, and heavily centralized the already faltering government of the weak Republic. Caesar was attacked and stabbed to death by a group of Senators who called themselves the Liberators.

Caesar's favorite horse had split hoofs and looked like toes rather than a solid hoof. It is unclear if these toes were on all four hoofs, just the front, or only one hoof. At any rate, it was noticeable enough for the ancient writers to mention it.
