Yes it is but there is a kindle just for reading books but the tablet can do more than books.

you cant hack, but you can access the internet with 2 ways i found out myself.1. go onto amazon shop which is impossible to block. type in anything, and then in the left hand corner press on new and used offers which has a price below. click on a random seller, then another page will open, a box with a cross in the corner, below the black bar there will be something that says amazon.co.uk, click on that. then type in anything in the bar, press enter then scroll right to the bottom. it says full amazon.co.uk site, click on that. in the top right corner it says somethin like free downloads amazon , click on the link.then scroll down a bit and it says android appstore i think click download . you will be at the Google play store . on the top left they will be a bar saying search and stuff, click on search then ur at google. another way, you parents need to unlock appstore, download any fan app, i have the 1d fan app, it will have 5 optionz, click on more then click twitter, create or sign in to a twitter , then post a link to google or whateva,then click on it and ur at that site. it does work wiyh utube but you can only have it vertical so the vidsoz are small. thats it :)

But while a dropped naked Kindle is probably done for, IF you have a hard cover for your Kindle, and when you're not reading you keep the cover closed at all times to protect the Kindle, it's reasonably rugged and can probably handle a drop or two.

There are few apps that you can use to start your kindle fire HD camera available on amazon appstore. Some apps that are best for me to start camera are ES File Explorer and myCamera HD+. ES is a file explorer that lets you use kindle camera where as myCamera HD+ has its own customized camera and effects.

1. you can amazon.com and login, so that if you find any free books you like, you can order them and they will be sent to your kindle wirelessly. Then when you are logged in type in "free kindle books" in the search box of the website. then it should list all the free kindle books. if not, when you type in "free kindle books" on the right side you should see a dropbox that says 'SORT BY". Click the arrow piont ing down, then click" Price: low to high".

It Depends what kind of book or movie if your downloading it from the kindles book/movie marketplace then most books or movies cost something but sometimes people download the e-books from a website. so i guess the answer to your question would be "Sometimes" hope i helped!

It will give you all the steps on how to root it then you'll be able to access the android app store and the amazon app store through your kindle fire it also works if you have an android device do which you want to download all of your abs onto your kindle
