Leather can be derived from almost any mammal hide. But most commonly leather comes from cows. Deer also are a good source of leather. Snake Crocodile are also other good source of leather.

Any animal/reptile/bird/fish with a removable skin can be used to make leather.

The most common are cow and pig but others are also used for handbags, clothing etc.

The holy grail of leather waterproofers is SNO-SEAL, but it will make your boots look shinier and darker. Reviews on waterproofing that do not change the color or feel of your boots have mixed reviews. I am trying to research the best ones and haven't really found the best one for myself, but you could check out the "Granger G-Max Footwear Universal Waterproofer" (it is on Amazon) since the reviews specifically say that it does not change the boots.

There is no one product that will guarantee to get stains out of leather. If a product has this guarantee then there are some type of finish that will be damaged by its use. Getting stains out of leather will depend on the type of leather you have (either an aniline style leather or a finished/protectoed type) Check out this chart which gives you a good outline of the type of leather there are http:/www.lttleathercare.co.uk/whatkindofleather.asp Most stains on an aniline style leather will be permanent as they have soaked into the leather itself and you cannot extraction clean them. If they are oil based stains however then a professional degreaser will work but may remove colour as well. If you have a protected style of leather then most things should clean off the surface with a good cleaner. The use of a leather protector will help inhibit dirt and body oils from being absorbed into the leather or from damaging the finish and it will also make the leather easier to clean. The key to good leather care is to keep the leather clean and a maintenance clean (5-10minutes) will keep it in overall good condition and prolong the life of your leather. Rub some hair on it.

Apply saddle soap or similar conditioner to the jacket and let it dry overnight, then take mink oil and apply that over the jacket, this should restore the suppleness to the leather, aswell as restore some color to the jacket.

You can try using a product called Leather Honey Conditioner, it works wonders on peeling faux leather!

Most information online about cleaning microsuede says to use rubbing alcohol and a clean lintfree cloth. I have never gotten ink on my microsuede couch (thankfully) but I do use rubbing alcohol to get ink out of clothing and it works well.

A white rubber eraser will remove blue stains from you white leather shoes! It worked wonders for mine! Hope it works!

If it has stuffing, and not foam, then take it outside, take the stuffing out. Then you scrub water into the leather. Not just on the pee, but all over it, bottom, top, all sides. Then let it sit in the sun until it is hot and dry. If there is still a smell of pee then repeat until it is gone with "Natures Miricle" which is found at most pet stores.

Dry cleaning. Or if it was mine I'd take a spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol o Axe bodyspray (rubbing alcohol if you don't want the Axe fragerance) and spray the coat and the put it outside on a really windy day and let it flap around in the wind all day, that would probably work.

Stickiness is often caused by using the wrong products for cleaning or 'conditioning' your leather

Using household products and 'old wives' remedies are very short sighted when it comes to cleaning and caring for leather and can become very costly in the long run as problems they generally cause will be costly to put right. (although it does keep people like ourselves busy as we rush round fixing problems caused by using the wrong things!!!)

You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. (LTT Leather Shampoo) With light coloured leather dye transfer from clothing can be a problem although using a good quality leather protector (LTT Leather Protect) will help inhibit this. Black obviously does not show this problem.

DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish (pledge) contains silicones which will eventually destroy the finish on the leather. Most car cleaners also contain oils or waxes so should not be used as they leave residues on the surface of the leather which attract more dirt which eventually leads to cracking.

BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. They are very strong alkiline cleaners to neutralise urine (acid) on babys skin so they are not the right thing to use on leather.

Saddle soap should never be usd on upholstery leather or garments it is meant for saddles which are very different from todays finished leathers.

A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. They are not cheap in the long run as you would need a lot to clean. A bottle of foam cleaner should do your car about 3-4 times.

Fairy liquid contains more salt these days to get dishes clean and this will break the finish down on your leather. This has been verified by the manufacturers (as with the baby wipes).

You should also follow cleaning with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.

Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.

It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this. The only 'moisturizer' a leather needs is from water.

The alternative is a brand new product on the market called Lazy Leather. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your suite has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.

Using incorrect care products is usually the cause of deterioration in the leather as unfortunately most car care products contain waxes and oils or silicones which do not do the leather any good.

You can use a soft cloth, such as J-Cloth lightly soaked in Lemon Oil or teak oil and rub the wood. You may find that you need to rub it for a long time but the marks will begin to disappear.

You can try using mayonnaise but I would recommend a process using denatured alcohol and a a product by Jasco called white ring remover. There is also a great article listed below that gives a good proccess on getting rid of white rings.

If the stain is fresh, then the stain can be removed by simply rubbing the stain with a damp cloth. Older stains can be removed with a leather cleaner from a brand like Pledge.

To soften leather gloves first let them soak in a bucket of hot water for ten minutes and then put them on to keep them from shrinking. When they are just damp apply alcohol and leather conditioner on the gloves.

You should get a professional in to do your couch the first time so they can identify the fabric. Is it cotton, nylon, wool, etc. Cotton and wool can shrink and will eventually make a mess of shampooing your couch. If you have a nylon blend and don't have a rug shampooer with an upholstery cleaner you can rent one from most stores. "Rug Doctor" is usually a good shampooer. Instructions are usually on the tank of these rental cleaners. If you have a "Home Depot" hardware store in your area they have the best cleaners and it only costs $19.95 to rent one for the day, BUT you have to leave a $100 deposit (too many people steal them, thus the deposit.) You will get the deposit back when you take the machine back. Their products for rug and upholstery cleaning is called "ZEP" and is my favorite type of shampoo cleaner.

I spilled coffee with milk in my car and it was RANK. I used the product in the pet store to remove pet urine called Nature's Miracle and it worked great. You pour it on, let it soak in until it evaporates and the smell goes away. While not suggested, I sponge up the residue with a clean cloth as it seems gross to let it sit and marinate. Nature's Miracle is basically alcohol, so perhaps you would do as well to try this. But make sure to test a section before you pour all over your couch. May lift the color.
