"Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate-we can not consecrate-we can not hallow-this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion-that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain-that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom-and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." - Abraham Lincoln

The states on the Lincoln Memorial are the 36 states that were in the Union at the time of Lincoln's election. ADDENDUM: The states at the top of the memorial are the 48 states that were part of the US at the time it was built (excluding Alaska & Hawaii). There are 36 columns on the monument's outside and each of those at the top has an inscribed state. Those states are the 25 union and 11 suceded states.

Since she was rejected everywhere, including Lincoln Memorial because she was an African-American, Ms. Roosevelt hersel quit the DAR and allowed her to have a free, open-air concert at the Lincoln Memorial where 75,000 people attended on an Easter Sunday.

The Lincoln Memorial is maintained and administered by the National Park Service of National Mall and Memorial Parks, (NAMA) located in Washington DC. NAMA, is responsible for maintaining and administering the National Mall, the Washington Monument, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The Trust for the National Mall, is the official fund raising partner of the National Park Service, which is the main source of all the memorials (listed) funds.

This is for the remembrance of the Late President Abraham Lincoln who give his entire knowledge and wisdom on how to make a balanced and equal society in America. That there should be no racial discrimination and to stop slavery among whites and the blacks. He unites the South and the North America also and now that the reason why there's this United States Of America.

On the left, the Gettysburg Address is carved into the wall and on the right his 2nd Inaugural Address is carved(look for this mistake when you go, in the first panel, Future looks like Euture as it was originally carved as an E and had to be filled in!)

the Lincoln memorial is a monument in honor of our 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. the construction started in 1914 designed by Henry Bacon. it was based on a greek temple with 36 doric columns. each column represented one state of the union at the time of Lincoln's death.

Martin Luther King Jr. wanted everyone to be equal. He gave the speech there because Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. And the speech is "I Have a Dream."

26... there are 26 columns in the outer circular part of the Jefferson Memorial; which represent the 26 states at the time of Jefferson's end term as President.

The Lincoln Memorial is located in Washington DC. across from the reflecting pool. Inside the 99ft/30m tall marble temple is a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln seated in a chair. The sculpture, designed by Daniel Chester French, was originally intended to be 10ft/3m tall. Henry Bacon realized the statue would be dwarfed inside the large building so the size was almost doubled to 19ft/5.8m. When you first walk in, on the southern wall is the inscription of the Gettysburg Address and on the northern wall is the inscription of Lincolns second inaugural speech. Martin Luther King Jr's famous speech took place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Henry Bacon built the Lincoln Memorial in order to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It took eight years to build the memorial which was dedicated in 1922. Several other monuments and statues have been built to honor past presidents.

It is made out of Murphy Marble which is a type of stone.

At Mount Rushmore you can walk the Avenue of Flags and look at the flags of all the US states and territories. You can attend the Lighting Ceremony each evening.

You can hike around the monument and also visit a museum and a gift shop.
