Lutheran

The Lutheran branch of Christianity was named after one of the earliest Protestants, Martin Luther. His thesis, which asked questions about the beliefs of the Catholic church, was nailed to the cathedral door. Some Lutherans believe 'The Book of Concord,' published in 1580, contains authoritative explanations of Scripture.

What is the difference between prodestant churches?

There are many differences. The two biggest differences are in the sacraments of Communion and Baptism. Churches such as Methodists, Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians baptize infants and receive communion anywhere from once a month to every Sunday. Other denominations such as Baptists, Nazarenes, and other Evangelicals, receive communion less often and only baptize older children and adults.

What happens during Lutheran church?

It depends on what church you go to. Some churches are very traditional, although I have never personally been to one quite a traditional as the Catholic services I've gone to. Many pastors like to start their sermons with a joke or somewhat funny comment that ties into the message. Some are very contemporary. Either way, there is an awful lot of singing by the congregation, whether old hymns or new worship songs. There's usually a confession of sins, Bible readings, responsive readings back and forth with the pastor, a sermon, and Communion, among other things.

If you are a guest, you will probably be informed by the bulletin that the Lutheran church, or at least the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, practices closed Communion, which means they do not believe in taking Communion (the ritual bread and wine) with those who are from a different denomination. It would be requested that you ask for only a blessing instead of drinking the wine and eating the bread.

What was the number of Catholics and Protestants in 1500.. And then how many were there in 1600?

Roman Catholic AnswerAs there are no census figures from the sixteenth and seventeenth century, we are going to have to go with a general picture. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, aside from a few Jews and Arabs in Europe, everyone was Catholic for the simple reason that Martin Luther had not yet come on the scene and lost his mind yet. A century later, due to political reasons, most of the Scandanavian countries, along with the Netherlands, England, and northern Germany had become predominately protestant, with France, Spain, Austria, Sourthern Germany, and Italy remaining Roman Catholic.

What is the function of a Deaconess in the Lutheran Church you understand they are often Nurses Are they celibate like RC Nuns?

A Lutheran deaconess is a member of the diaconate "order" or community. The diaconate is an ancient movement with its roots in the New Testament. The titles "deacon" (for men) and "deaconess" (for women) come from the ancient and Biblical Greek word "diakonos" which means servant. "Let the one who would be great among you be your servant (Greek: diakonos)" -Gospel of St. Mark 10:43. The "sisters" are theologically trained and consecrated to a life of prayer and service. A deaconess in the Lutheran Church is someone whose main vocation is to minister to members of the Church and greater community. A Lutheran deaconess can get married, but some choose a life of celibacy so that they can devote their lives only to their vocation. Some of the types of works a sister does are caring for the poor or marginalized and those in need. They are teachers, nurses, counselors, coordinators and caretakers for the young, elderly, sick, homeless, dying, orphaned, imprisoned and disabled. Some Lutheran parishes formally "call" a deaconess to serve their parish or as a way for the parish offer the deaconess' services to the community. There are also deaconess communities where the sisters live, pray, worship and work collectively.

What is Missouri Lutheran?

You are probably referring to a member of the American Lutheran synod which calls itself the LCMS or Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. They are one of the small, socially conservative branches of Lutheranism which has maintained separation from the larger ELCA or Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The LCMS is not a member of the Lutheran World Federation or the World Council of Churches while the ELCA is. Cardinal indentifiers are that they (the LCMS) claim a literalist interperetation of the Bible and practice closed or "close" Communion, believing that total doctrinal agreement is necessary amongst communicants. Unlike most other Lutherans in the world, they are under the headship of district presidents rather than bishops. Also in contrast to the larger ELCA, they do not accept women into the ordained priesthood or other offices of public ministry, and they have an intolerant view of homosexuality.

What is Pastoral Ministry?

it is a cloud of smoke and gas like farts lol

Can a baptist take communion in a Lutheran church?

No. The Lutheran church believes that Holy Communion is Christ's body and blood by Real Presence. RP is usually described as "in, with, and under". To overly simplify it: we're not sure how it works, but we're taking it on faith. Roman Catholics believe that the wafer/ unleavened bread miraculously becomes- physically and figuratively- the body and blood of Christ. This is a fundamental difference of philosophy, so they would probably not let you.

Of course, this depends on the church itself. They would probably quote 2 Timothy (I think) and the curse that befalls anyone who takes Communion/ Eucharist in an unholy fashion.

hope i helped.

REVISED**The verse is 1 Corinthians 11:27 that states that communion should not be done in an unholy fashion
