Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is a branch of engineering that encompasses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power and the design, production, and use of machines and tools. Mechanical engineering involves application of the principles of dynamics, control, thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, materials science, electronics, and mathematics.

What is axial load?

An axial load is a force administered along the lines of an axis.

This is typically used to describe an injury in which there is compression of the spine from the head, such as when a person dives head first into shallow water and hits the top of his head on the bottom. This frequently causes fractures of the spine and possibly spinal cord injury.

It is also commonly used to describe a specific strength of materials known as their uniaxial compressive or tensile strength and also to find the variation of their strength with increasing confining pressure (as used in triaxial testing).

Can a lubricating oil purifier be used as a diesel oil purifier?

No! It will not work as a purifier works using central fugalforce (spins dirty fuel to the outside). Lubricating oil is heavier so it cant be used. On marine purifiers any dirty fuel is dumped into a sludge tank after the sensor realises there is more than 15 parts per million. If you were to use lubricating oil the sensor will dump all of it as it is too thick.

What does astm f2413 05 175c75 mean?

f2413-05 has something to do with chain saw protection. and I think 175/c75 is some kind of osha requirement for safety footwear?

F2413 is the ASTM designation for footwear protection standards for work boots. The "-05" signifies the 2005 version which was updated in 2011 and is signified with "-11" suffix. The last part "I75" (not 175) and "C75" designate (I)mpact resistance of 75 ft lbs and (C)ompression resistance of 75 ft lbs (there are boots that only resist 50 ft lbs also that would bear the designation I50 C50). There are further designations for various other properties. . .EH = Electrical isolation to help prevent electrocution. .CD - Conductive (i.e., it allows electrical grounding) for use in potentially explosive environments (where gases, explosives and volatile chemicals are present). .SD = Static Dissipative (kind of a combination of EH & CD). .PR = Puncture Resistant. .CS - Chain Saw resistant. .DI = Dielectric (a higher grade EH, I believe).

Is there a pumping system which variable speed drive is not recommended?

Most centrifugal chillers require a constant water flow, therefore a VFD would not be of any use.

With a centrifugal pump what will a blockage in the discharge or suction side do to the pump amps?

A blockage in the downstream side of the pump could make this pump work harder raising the amps as the pump now has to do more work to get through the line. An upstream blockage would make the pump spin more freely lowering the amps on the pump as it will not be doing any work.

Regarding Rigging what does JLG mean?

A JLG is a brand name of mobile personal and equipment lifts used extensively in rigging.

What is the best course to do after mechanical engineering for immediate job with good payscale?

For good pay scale, after completing mechanical engineering the courses are CSWIP CERTIFICATION COURSE, DESIGNING, CAD/CAM, or else plan for MS if it is affordable.

What are the parts of simple loop generator?

yoke,magnetic poles,armature,field winding,shaft,armature winding,commutator

What is proximitor?

A proximitor is an electronic device that generates a radio frequency (RF) signal using an oscillator circuit. It also processes the RF signal to extract usable data using a demodulator circuit. A proximitor is often used in conjunction with a proximity probe to measure the displacement of a target surface.

What will the water pressure be in bar in a 3rd story flat if the ground level is 3 bar?

There is a pressure difference in the building only if the system referred to is NOT a closed system. In a closed, pressurized pipe system the pressure is the same throughout. If open, assuming 3 stories x 10 feet/story, one would add the pressure equivalent to 30 feet of water head.

What is fouling factor this factor used in heat exchangers?

Fouling factor is essentially used in determining the efficiency of the heat exchangers. Fouling factor is obtained from service (product) on either side of tubes and material of tubes. It basically represents corrosion of heat exchangers tubes which affects efficiency of heat transfer.

How much electricity required to develop 1 bar pressure in a compressor?

None! A tank at atmospheric pressure already has an absolute pressure of 1.013 bar.

What is the power consumption Kw of an industrial dehumidifier and air mover?

Dehumidifiers: between 1.05kw and up to 5kw for the big ones. Standard for those owned by restoration companies is 2.25kw.

Air movers: between 0.45kw and up to about 0.9kw. Standard is 0.55kw.

This is for the portable equipment, by the way. I don't know about the equipment that gets hard-wired into buildings.

What is the density of galvanised iron sheet?

Galvanized Iron (GI) is coated in layers of zinc to prevent corrosion. Its density is generally the same with steel, and is taken at 7850 kg/m3.

What is a turbine trip?

A turbine trip is an automatic shutdoen to protect the wquipment from over-speed damage. It is similar to blowing a fuse on an electrical system die to a short circuit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any device which will instantly shut down the turbine. There are high vibration trips, overspeed trips, high bearing temperature trips, low lube oil pressure trips, eccentricity trips, axial position trips, and for generating units: out of phase trips, low voltage trips, high voltage trips, reverse power trips, power to ground trips, and a few others.

What is the difference between the Medal of Honor and the congressional Medal of Honor?

Medal of Honor is the correct nomenclature, each major branch of the military has their Medal of Honor. Award of the Medal of Honor is approved by congress and presented to the recipient by the president. Possibly because of congress authorization, the Medal of Honor gets tagged mistakenly as the Congressional Medal of Honor. Again, there is no Congressional Medal of Honor, if anyone can show me what one looks like I would appreciate it. I can easily show what each branch of military service has as their separate Medals of Honor.

There IS a Congressional GOLD medal that is awarded by Congress via the President to civilians for non-military service to the US. This in NOT a military award. George M Cohen was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for writing songs for the war effort - WW1. But this was not for any military service.

I just watched the Doolittle raid on the MILITARY CHANNEL (12/17/10) and they mistakenly said that Doolittle was awarded the CMOH. WRONG, He was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR by the Army Air Corp.

What is d-q coordinate of IPM machine?

d-q a direct (magnet pole) and quadrature (90deg out of phase electrically) axis. This is identical to surface permanent magnet machine (SPM).
