What is load compensation?

compensation of load by connecting a compensating device which adjust the real and reactive power in the distribution side or load side.

What purpose of heat number write on the pipe?

Depends on what pipe you are asking about. Most pipe such as PVC has a max heat rating for internal and external temperatures. this is why regular white PVC should never be used for hot water from a hot water heater which can be 120 degrees (F) or more and melt regular PVC. That is why they recommend using CPVC which has a higher temperature rating. Depends on what pipe you are asking about. What is difference bw condensing and non condensing steam turbines?

A condensing turbine uses all the energy from the steam going from high pressure turbine to secondary turbine to condensing turbine then sends the condensate back for reheating. where a non condensing turbine just uses the high pressure aspect of the steam then returns the low pressure stream back to be reheated. Condensng turbines utilises the entire available drop from high pressure to the vacuum in the condenser; a back pressure turbine only utilises only the top part, whereas an exhaust steam turbine utilises only th bottom part of the pressure drop. Hope that helps.

What is Truss and its Applications in Mechanical Engineering?

A truss is a framework consisting of beams, girders, or rods which lie in a single plane. It is used in large spans and heavy loads, providing a support for bridges and roofs.

What is ansi 150?

Ansi 150 is a pressure grade of flange ie. Ansi #150 Flange. For steel flanges this is specified by ANSI B16.5.

Why is the product development process said to be iterative in nature?

Even with the fantastic analytical tools we have today, almost never is a product developed that has no problems on the first prototype. Something unanticipated always shows up. Also, the experience of doing something really helps, so usually after designing and making a product prototype, ideas for improvements come. It's usually a few cycles before the improvements become so minor they are not worth the next iteration. It can be extremely difficult to know when to stop development on a product.

What is a tower boom?

What temperature does pewter melt?

Pewter melts at 300 degrees Celsius and 572 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is dry-liners?

In a dry liner the coolant runs in channels in the block, and the liner is only like a sleeve stuck in a metal hole. Poorer cooling, but an easier build.

What is the vickers hardness of electroplated nickel?

Varies depending on the electroylite solution used (several). Can be hard to soft. Electroless Nickel is typically a more advanced form of (industrial) plating and the low phosphorus variety can achieve hardness's up to Rockwell "C" rated or HRC 60 which is very hard, like hardened steel.

So, is it an industrial coating (electroless) or is it being plated over steel to receive a chrome finish (automobile bumper)?

Typically the introduction of impurities into nickel actually makes it harder as pure nickel is quite soft and malleable.

Hope this helps.

Uses of verniers?

To measure things, or is that just too obvious? A.K.A. Vernier Callipers

Why hotwell level is maintained in condenser?

High hotwell level will get the cooling water tubes of condenser submerged in the condensate hence cooling efect will be reduced consequentaly vacuum will drop.

Low hotwell level will lead to low suction pressure of Condensate Extraction Pump hence it may lead to cavitation.

What generalizations can you make about transition metals?

Transition metals are less reactive than alkali metals and alkaline-earth metals. They tend to be shiny and conduct thermal energy well.

Hope this helps!~ I first I didn't get it either. : )

How conveyor belt head pulley works?

A Conveyor belt's head pulley is also known as the drive pulley, its on this end of a conveyor system where the motorized pulley is installed. At this point the conveyed material is discharged "wherever" and the belt wraps around and begins its return cycle.

The head pulley is at the discharge so that the conveyed material is "pulled" through the system vs. having the tail pulley motorized which would be forcing the system to "push" the belt containing the conveyed material.

What is the difference between premixed and diffusion flame?

Two main different combustion regime: diffusion flame is generated when fuel and oxidizer are provided separately and then mixes with each other and reacts in the mixing zone; while premixed flame is generated when fuel and oxidizer are totally mixed and goes to burning after ignition. The main difference is that premixed flame forms a propagating wave front and diffusion flame tends to be stable. Due to that, premixed flame is more sensitive to acoustics, i.e. flashback and blow-off. On the other hand, the mixing is a key factor for diffusion flame. If mixing is not enough, we suffers with high soot and unburnt hydrocarbon emissions. The flame thickness is different a lot, and premixed flame is much thinner. In terms of environment issue, NOx emission is relatively higher in premixed flame than in diffusion flame due to higher flame temperature. In application, safety is a main concern for premixed flame, so that stabilization is always applied in practice. Diffusion flame is more widely applied, especially on aircraft and power station.

Why I-beam's are preferable over rectangular beam's?

You just take an example as rect section with A=17.6*10=176 mm2 and your I section too has same area of 176 mm2.

Calculate moment of inertia of rectangular section I = bd3/12 = 1466.66 mm4

For I section, Width of both flange = 20 mm, thickness of both flange = 4 mm, web length=16 mm, web thickness = 4mm. This gives you the same area A=176 mm2

Now Calculate moment of inertia of I section I =8938 mm4 (Do it from any online converter or by calculations)

Now compare both Moment of inertia, I section has approx six times better moment of inertia as compared to rectangular section. Put up this moment of inertia values in deflection and bending stress equations and try to compare both. This is because the material is put up in such a way to get maximum moment of inertia with minimum material and min weight. Finally this is the reason why I beams are preferable over rectangular beams

Once Put up this moment of inertia values in deflection and bending stress equations and try to compare both. you will get it in sec

What is formula for boiler efficiency?

boiler efficiency calculation methods:
  1. Input-output method
η = Output / Input

Output is defined as the heat that is absorbed by working fluid. Input is defined as the chemical heat of fuel plus the heat that is added to working fluid, air, gas and other fluid circuit in which the fluid circuit across thin layer.

  1. Heat Loss Method
Heat loss method is the method that is used to calculate the percentage amount of heat which is not useful. This method is very effective used in an attempt to find potential savings of boiler with heat balance.

There are several factors act as the source of heat loss combustion. These factors will be used to calculate boiler efficiency based on heat loss method. The source of heat loss can be seen as following below:

a. Heat loss due to dry flue gas

Heat loss due to dry flue gas is the heat loss which is contained in dry flue gas such as CO2, O2 and N2. These gases are one of causes of heat loss in combustion process. The high temperature of flue gas coming out from boiler affect amount of heat loss.

The weight and heat loss of dry flue gas of combustion of coal can be calculated as following formula:

Wdfg = mCO2 + mSO2 + mO2 + mN2

Eloss dfg = Wdfg x Cp x (To - Ts)

Where:

Wdfg = weight of dry flue gas (kg/kg coal)

Eloss dfg = heat loss in dry flue gas (kJ/kg)

To = temperature of dry flue gas coming out from boiler

Ts = temperature of surrounding

What is a desuperheater?

Hi

Superheated steam is steam that is at a temperature higher than the saturation temperature for the steam pressure. For example, steam at a pressure of 3 bar g has a saturation temperature of 143.762°C. If further heat were to be added to this steam and the pressure remained at 3 bar g, it would become superheated.

So, desuperheating is the process by which superheated steam is restored to its saturated state, or the superheat temperature is reduced.

The idea behind desuperheating is that saturated steam has a better energy exchange capacity (U coefficient) than superheated steam.

Superheated steam must cool down before condensing, therefore it is less efficient than saturated steam in appliances such as heat exchangers.

Also, superheated steam is a thermal insulator, just like air.
