Menstruation

Menstruation is the routine discharge, or release, of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus. This process occurs about once a month from the time a female reaches puberty until menopause. During pregnancy, the monthly menstrual cycle is absent while the womb nourishes the growing fetus.

I had my period just a few days ago and then i thought it was over but then i saw that i was spotting some brownish red. What does that mean?

do not worry this is completely normal. When you first start your period the body is cleaning out its self and that is what is happening. Usually when this happens you had a light flow for a short time then it basicly discharges the extras and it might be a little smelly but that is also normal. When you get older this probably won't happen as often or not at all. When you are producing this brownish "discharge" you don't want t use a tampon because it is more of a sticky dry substance. So you are normal and have no problems. I know this is none of my buisness but it sounds like you are young and as a doctor I am completely fine with answering these, but these questions should be directed to your parents. I know it might be awkward to say somethng to your father but he was once your age and probably had a girl friend or friend who told him about this stuff. And if you ever have a question or need help with something about your body you can always trust the sight www.askiris.com it has answers to questions, free samples, and a trusted answer

Can stopping NuvaRing cause a heavier and crampier period?

When you're on hormonal birth control, the hormones make your bleeding lighter and less crampy. When you stop birth control, you are having an actual period, and bleeding and cramping are likely to be heavier. You return to your own previous pattern within a month or two after stopping hormonal birth control. If you're not seeking pregnancy, you can talk with your health care provider about contraceptive options to avoid heavy and crampy periods. If you're trying to get pregnant, talk with your health care provider about options for pain control.

Is it necessary to take sugar pills?

You can, but it kinda defeats the purpose of them. They're only there to help you develop a regular habit, like:

  • get up
  • go to the bath room
  • take the pill
  • continue with the day

The theory is that this will make it easier to remember taking the "real" pills at the right time.

Now, if you deliberately start taking the pills at different times, you're not setting the habit, and you run a greater risk of forgetting to take them.

I have to wear pads while swimming.?

No you do not. You can wear tampons or nothing at all. The water will fill up your pad just like a diaper. No blood will come out when you are in the water. But be careful because when you get out of the water you need to put a pad on because it will start up again.

Hope this helps!

Actually, you can. Make sure your bikini bottoms are not too big. The period stops while in water. Wear two pairs of bikini bottoms and board shorts. This way the pad can't come out and it won't matter. I'd be careful in a pool, however. The pad won't come off the swimmer bottoms, but it still is a little dirty. I'm terrified of tampons, so I just use this method. It works, since I'm scared to use tampons. :)

How does excessive bleeding endanger life?

Because they lose blood, their body cannot get all the essential nutrients it needs to function. Blood carries oxygen and other materials to cells, and then also carries away waste from the cells. If the blood cells are not enough then the other body cells cannot function properly, and waste builds up in the body cells.

This doesn't mean anything. It's certainly nothing to worry about. Mine can sometimes be a week early or even a week late. It won't always be on time.

What should you do if you haven't had your period for more than a month?

I would call my doctor. I had a miscarriage at about that point in my pregnancy and they ended up doing a D&C to make sure everything got cleaned out. Not that a D&C is something you want to ruch into as it can leave scaring, but it might be good to have a doctor allerted because if you get a fever or excess pain or I don't know what else, they might want/need to do one. You wouldn't want to get infected.

What does it mean win your uterus is large n has a thickening lining around it?

I was just diagnosed with Diffuse Adenomyosis which is usually caused by trauma to the uterus from a c-section or pregnancy. Adenomyosis is cells/tissue growing on the trauma site, my MRI showed diffuse adenomyosis which encompasses my whole uterus and makes it 'heavy and bulky'. Four years ago I had an ultra sound and was told everything looked thick. I'm now going to be getting a hysterectomy of just the uterus because it's the only way to 'cure' it, I have constant pain and pressure. Hope this may helps. My family doctor couldn't diagnose this, he referred me to my OBGYN, she found it in a snap.

Can fingering a girl mess up her period?

Hey sweety The only way to delay your period is to go on the pill then, after the first month, you can pick and choose when you get your period. Fingering yourself will make no difference whatsoever.

Do Hasidic Jews wear tampons?

There's no reason why they wouldn't. Presumably the rate at which Chassidic women use tampons v. pads is similar to the general American populace.

Does your period stop while taking a bath?

No, periods last for 3-9 days. They do not stop because you have to take a bath. If you have gotten your period already, then you should be taking showers regularly, using deodorant, changing your clothes everyday and staying clean as possible!

Why do women get cramps during menses?

Is there a way to get rid of blood clots from your period?

drink plenty of water and tea before your cycle, stay away from sweets and unhealthy foods. That's what creates blood clots. Advil and the fetal position may also help.
