How did Mitt Romney avoid the draft?
Mitt Romney received a two year religious deferment to serve as a missionary in France. When he returned he was issued a draft card, but his number was never called up.
Why are people against Mitt Romney because he's a Mormon?
Because they listen to rumors and don't find out for themselves what he believes in. JFK was catholic, so what? It is illegal to not allow a religious person to run for office. Everyone has their beliefs of some sort. Remember.... By their fruits you will know them. I was horrified when I saw that guy refuse to shake Mr. Romney's hand back during the primaries. Talk about a bigot! But no one talks about the bigotry towards members of Mitt Romney's church. It has always been that way, why? People in general-when uneducated regarding a certain subject is what causes bigotry. Get educated, search it out for yourselves. People are not perfect but different belief systems should always be respected.
As with any member of a religion, it is foolish (and bigoted) to simply hate/dislike that member because they claim to follow it.
However, and this applies in particular to those running for public office where they will be responsible for creating and/or enforcing policy upon others (most who will NOT belong to that candidate's religion), it is perfectly proper to question the candidate about particular tenets of their religion and how that candidate would apply those tenets when in office.
That is, it's perfectly OK to ask questions like "You're religion does not believe in pre-marital sex. How do you propose to run sex education programs in the public schools?" However, it is NOT acceptable to state "I won't support Candidate X because his religion believes in <some idea>", without finding out how the Candidate views that particular tenet, AND how that belief would affect his/her public policy stance.
It's a fine line to walk, but remember, the CORRECT thing to do is ask about how the candidate would apply some belief of his/her religion in the public sphere. And, it's entirely reasonable for that candidate to answer "I believe in <idea> but I will NOT change public policy to conform to solely my belief." Conversely, it is entirely correct to consider a candidate unsuitable for office if they state something like "I believe <religious belief> is the only correct way to do things, and I work to make <religious belief> law."
Religion can be used to inform public policy, but specific religious beliefs should NEVER be codified into law.
What was ann Romney's religion before converting to Mormanism?
Ann Romney's father, Edward Davies, was raised as a congregationalist but was quite opposed to organized religion when Ann was growing up. They rarely attended church, but when they did it was usually an Episcopalian church.
yeah, that,s how God intended it to be!
Another opinion:
Using the argument, "This is the way it's always been, and so this is the way it should always be," is an illogical argument. Just because things were done a certain way in the past is NOT a real reason to continue those things. In the past mothers put their babies to sleep on their stomachs, but scientific evidence has shown that this practice leads to higher rates of SIDS. So, now, mothers are encouraged to put their babies to sleep on their backs. Good thing! In the past, if a person showed signs of mental illness, a drill was taken to their skull to let the "bad spirits" out. Things change. Society changes. Marriage is a legal thing that has to go through a court licensing process to be recognized by the government. Then, many people have their religious ceremonies to celebrate the union. The government has no control over the religious aspect of marriage, as our government takes the stance of a separation of church and state. Whether you are a pagan, a Christian, or whatever, you can become married. So, God's opinion on marriage should not play into what the United States of America (or it's individual states) decides concerning marriage.
Who is Matt Romneys main rival for the republican presidential nominations?
Rivals, plural. Rick Santorum, former Senator from Pennsylvania, and Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House and Representative from Georgia, are Romney's two opponents for the Republican presidential nomination.
Ron Paul, Representative from Texas, is also in the race, but has essentially no chance of winning. Paul probably stays in the race to be able to use his delegates as leverage to shift the party platform to a more Libertarian stance, and away from the "social conservative" positions that Santorum often supports.
Should no candidate have a majority of delegates committed at the time of the Convention, it's remotely - REMOTELY - possible that some other consensus candidate could emerge. The most widely discussed name in that context is generally Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida (son of President George H. W. Bush, brother of President George W. Bush).
What do Mitt Romney and Barack Obama think of each other?
It's difficult to say conclusively, but based on newspaper reports, they did not seem to like each other very much. Do all 5 of mitt Romneys son have the same mothers?
Ann Romney, Mitt Romney's one and only wife, the only woman he has ever been married to, been in love with, or had any type of intimate relationship with, gave birth to all 5 boys, Tagg, Matt, Ben, Josh, and Craig. Those 5 sons are themselves faithful husbands and fathers. In fact, if more men held their wives with the same regard that Mitt has for Ann, I'm convinced we would have fewer divorces, happier marriages, stronger families, a stronger economy, and a stronger America.
And btw, Ann Romney also raised those 5 boys by herself (of course, she may've had some help from Mitt, but let's be honest -- it's the moms who do most of the work!) Anyway, the Romney boys did not grow up with a staff of maids, butlers, and nannies.
