How does moonshine make you go blind?

Most moonshine contains methanol, some added to give it kick and some from the brewing itself. A major metabolite of methanol is formic/methanoic acid; this is the same checmical found in wasp stings and ant bites. It damages the nerves of the eye and causes blindness in that way.

What if you kill your moonshine mash yeast?

Killing your moonshine mash yeast can lead to a failed fermentation, resulting in little to no alcohol production. This typically occurs due to extreme temperatures, high sugar concentrations, or the presence of toxic substances. Without active yeast, your mash will not convert sugars into alcohol, and you'll end up with a sweet, unfermented mixture instead of the desired spirits. To prevent this, maintain proper fermentation conditions and monitor your mash closely.

What is stump water?

Do you run moonshine through a still twice?

You don't have to, but you can. Distilling it twice simply removes more impurities in the alcohol. So, distill away!

Can you distill moonshine twice?

Yes. Traditionally, pot stills were not efficient and were cooked too hot, resulting in lots of water vapor ending-up in the distilled end-product. So the end-product was run through the still numerous times to raise the "proof", hence three x's on the jug. One for each time it went through the pot still. A reflux still is different, so talk to Spock about doing it in one of those modern contraptions. Idunno'bout them.

FYI: The term "Proof" comes from the fact that higher proof alcohol will burn. And lower or watered moonshine will not burn. So if it burns, that is is evidence of or "Proof" of the quality of the booze.
