MRI

MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. It is a particularly useful scan for neurology, cardiology and oncology patients. Questions on how they work, their development and uses can go in this category.

Does an open mri take longer than a closed mri?

Its a bit like comparing apples and pears! Older instruments are closed some could only take patients upto 140kg and not many were big enough to allow most head restraints used by surgeons. Open imagers were designed to make the experience less clostrophobic and allow larger object to be placed inside.

If you were performing the same tests then the time difference is probably non-existant for a modern open and a modern closed instrument. However, you are probably comparing an old closed instrument with a modern open instrument - the open is quicker. However, if the hospital has been diligent enough to buy a modern instrument perhaps they would like to run more tests whilst you are in the MRI scanner. Each test is run separetly and so running more tests with the instrument in different modes will take longer. Your radiographer will be able to tell you exactly how long the scan will take.

Summary - Open instruments tend to be more modern than closed instruments. Open instruments are more plesant to be scanned in. The number of modes of scan performed it the critical factor in how long the scan takes.

What field includes CAT (computerized axial tomography) scans and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans as diagnostic tools?

CAT scans and MRI scans are useful for a wide variety of medical investigations; the MRI in particular is very useful for neurological examinations, since it is otherwise very difficult to examine the brain in any detail. CAT scans can be used for all sorts of things, to investigate illness or injury in any part of the body. I had one recently for a kidney stone.

What does it mean when the MRI scan of brain says Ventricular system is dilated?

The ventricular system is a set of structures containing cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. It is continuous with the central canal of the spinal cord. If it is dilated, that means it is enlarged. The causes need to be explained by your physician.

Can i have an MRI done if I'm pregnant or think I am pregnant?

You can easily call the place where you're having it done and ask beforehand. Before that, I recommend you take a pharmacy bough pregnancy test to know if that's even an issue.

How many mri's can you have in a year Can an mri hurt you if you have to many?

I can find nothing that supports evidence that an MRI can cause harm such as cancer. believe me I am looking. But I still feel reluctant to have one. I have already had three MRI's of my brain.

What is an MRI referring agency?

The agency that referred the patient for the MRI; the doctor or clinic.

What is an OCC MRA?

OCC stands for Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and it is a bureau of the US Treasury department and is the federal banking regulator.

MRA stands for Matters Requiring Attention, and is the way that the OCC communicates to the banks a need for an action item to be addressed. These MRAs tend to be taken seriously by the banks.

Could mri testing on head cause cancer if wearing a wire bra?

Simply? No.

Wearing a wire bra during an MRI scan would affect the image quality around the area where the wire is e.g. the thoracic spine or the breast. It might also feel a little strange as the wire in the bra would potentially be twisted or moved by the magnetic field.

Can you listen to music during a brain MRI?

It is possible to listen to music during an MRI. The person being scanned wears headphones during the scan, enabling the technicians to communicate with the person being scanned. Generally you can take a CD, sometimes they have their own selection, but that could be risky! The technician will put the CD on for you and it will play through the headphones.

Having sub acromial decompression and distal clavicular resection Evidence of lesion on MRI - what could the lesion be?

Lesion is a nonspecific term that means any abnormality in tissue. If you didn't have an abnormality, you wouldn't be scheduling surgery. Talk with your orthopedist for information about your examination results.

What did paul Lauterbur do for the MRI machine?

Type your answer here..

Dr. Lauderber came up with the concept of using graduated gradient magnetic fields on top of the primary static magnetic field to assign data to a specific place. The gradients slightly change the magnetic field in 3 planes.

What is an mri and who needs one?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It's a nuclear process that allows doctors to see beneath flesh to identify damaged ligaments and tendons.

What is the difference between 1.5t mri and 3t mri scan?

3T MRI scans are scans done using twice the magnetic field strength. This is a physical difference. The stronger magnet allows us to see more information in the same time. So a 3T scan is simply twice as good, at least 4 times as fast and also delivers more radiofrequency RF energy during the scan. This means it sometimes feels warm inside the scanner. But to most patients this is a unimportant difference.

The true difference is the increased diagnostic capability of 3T MRI. For instance breast lesions are seen 100% at 3T but only 90% at 1.5T. In the case of MS we usually see 37% more lesions in the same patient with the same scans. However - we can sometimes see up to 300% more lesions. In my experience 3T MRI is superior to 1.5T MRI in most cases. We us 1.5T OPEN BORE MRI for our larger patients and claustrophobic patients but in most patients we find that 3T is superior to 1.5T.

We offer both to our patients and are one of the few facilities in the world that allows the patient to choose.

Why would one require an MRI with contrast?

An MRI with contrast is a high-tech medical imaging test that can help your doctor diagnose many different types of diseases. One would require an MRI with contrast if one had a history of tumors, cancers or surgeries.

What does arachnoiditis on an mri mean?

Arachnoiditis is inflammation of the the leptomeninges (arachnoid and pia mater). These structures wrap the surface of the brain and spinal cord. When they are inflamed, whatever the underlying cause, gadolinium injection during an MRI scan causes enhancement of the leptomeninges on T1 weighted images.

Many different health problems may cause arachnoiditis (from tuberculosis to carcinomatosis to autoimmune diseases).

So, strictly speaking, arachnoiditis on an MRI means the leptomeninges enhance.

What can one do during an mri?

It depends on the scan, and your age. For an fMRI or Functional MRI exam, the patient is asked to perform a wide variety of tasks, like playing games. If a child is to be scanned, they are usually sedated, so therefore cannot play any games whatsoever.

What are the treatments for a benign vertebal hemangioma seen within the L2?

Treatments for benign vertebral hemangioma vary depending on the type and symptoms, if any, caused by the tumor. Treatments may include radiation therapy, embolization, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, intralesional alcohol injection, and as a last resort, surgical removal.

How much money does an endoscope repair technician make?

The statement below is not entirely true, my husband IS an endoscopy repair technician of 13 plus years and makes close to 42k a year without a college degree. So, really if you can get the training and do well you can easily work your way up to a very well paying salary. Even entry level techs make better than $8 an hour unless you are completely non technical and have no abilities at all in which case another career choice probably would be best. Now if you are interested in getting into the field and have no prior experience whatsoever then you will need to get your foot in the door somewhere that does this type of service, and most places are willing to train so long as you have some technical skills. Good technicians are hard to find, the industry is strong and it's a very rewarding career choice that can even lead to more possibilities down the road in medical equipment repair.

Not much around $8.00 per hour if you have some minor skills, not recommended as a full time job unless you have a mentor or company/factory trainer.

What is disc osteophyte complex with flattening of the ventral thecal sac?

You have a bone spur on the vertebrae that is protruding towards the front of your body and putting pressure on the sac of cerebrospinal fluid that encircles the brain and spinal cord.
