Which degrees of the major scale can you have minor chords?

Normally, the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th are minor.

For example, in the key of C, that would be Dm, Em, and Am.

BONUS: a lot of times a song will end with a 4 chord, then a minor 4 chord before the 1. In the key of C, that would be an F, Fm, then C. Try it - it's pretty cool.

Can you do music at university im tone deaf?

Sure, you can. Music hearing can be developed practically with anyone.

But the less you are capable of it, the more effort it should take.

What is an octave clef?

Sometimes a clef has the number 8 below it, which indicates that the notes are to be played one octave lower than written. It can be used with treble clef for people who are unfamiliar with bass clef, or in bass clef to avoid excess ledger lines.

What tonality would most likely be chosed for a triumphal march?

How do you construct a D mixolydian scale?

The Mixolydian Mode is a structure built on the fifth degree of the major scale (originally called the Ionian Mode). The formula to the Mixolydian mode is to add one flat or subtract one sharp from the key.

As a straight comparison to the Major Scale you lower the seventh degree (in solfege, the "ti" note is lowered to a "to").

Major:

D E F# G A B C# D

Mixolydian:

D E F# G A B C D

What does a flat sign in front of G do to that note?

The G flat sign makes the G a bit higher than G but lower than A, somewhere in the middle.

Does e flat apply to all es?

If the piece is in the key of Eb (three flats in the key signature) then all E's in the piece are flat unless marked otherwise. All of the B's and A's in the piece are flat, too. If there's no Eb in the key signature, the marked Eb is just for that measure, unless cancelled or continued in the next measure (either would be marked).

Can you get a Csus13?

C13 is a chord made up of of the intervals 1-M3-5-M7-M9(M2)-11(P4)-M13(M6), theoretically a C major scale. Keep in mind that it is very to common to see a #11(tritone) versus a normal 11(P4). So the notes of the chord would be played: C-E-G-B-D-F#-A.

Now a sus could either be considered as a sus2 or sus4. A sus2 refers to a chord where the 3rd of the chord is replaced by a 2nd, so in a C triad (C-E-G) the E(3) would be replaced to a D(2) creating a Csus2 (C-D-G). A sus more commonly refers to a sus4, so a Csus4 would consist of C-F-G, replacing the E(3) to F(4). Now a Csus13 would replace the E to an F so the chord would consist of the following notes: C-F-G-B-D-F#-A. It would be a very ugly sounding chord none the less, and it is theoretically impossible to play on guitar due to the fact a guitar only has 6 strings.

What comes first The Beat or the lyrics?

The beat is way more important than the lyrics-- if anything the vocals are the least important part of any song.

Generally speaking I, respectfully, could not disagree more with the statement above.

Well... wait a minute... I suppose it depends on the music genre.

With R&B and rap you could argue that the beat is the most important- and in fact, that IS how those genres of music are made. They lay down the beat first and then record tracks on top of that.

A singer-songwriter might play a chord progression and sing over it.

I've read four books on songwriting which give examples of hit songs and show how they use the principles given in the book to be successful.

If we are talking about all the other music out there, besides rap and r&b, the melody that goes along with the lyrics is the most important part of the song- and is the part that makes the song memorable... assuming that the songwriter first understands the basics of songwriting and is writing an actual song based on established song structures like "Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Chorus" for example- as opposed to writing a poem that is vague, doesn't tell a story, has no structure and doesn't build to a climax and release like a song must.

What does a high C look like in music writing?

in treble clef, a high C is on the second ledger line above the staff.

What accidental cancels all other accidentals?

A natural sign cancels all applicable accidentals in that bar as well as accidentals in the key signature. However, in the case of the key signature accidentals, the natural sign is only applicable to that bar.

Are the accidentals in grace notes observed throughout the measure?

Yes. An accidental always carries through the entire measure, even when used on a grace note.
