To remove the battery case you have to get a small enough screw driver, in this case a Phillips head screw driver, the one with the four divots. Then loosen the screw, but do not fully unscrew it. If you do it's no big deal, you just have to rework it into the hole. After you have done that, slide the hard protective battery case, not the case that you put the batterys in, but the one that you have unscrewed. Take that out, then remove the orange battrey box that requires 6 "D" batterys. There you go. Just refill it with fresh ones or whatever you want to do with it. Putting it back in, slide in the side with the metal points into the gun first, then put the protective case in. Screw in the battery until it is screwed in hard enough so that it will not come loose. And its back in good shape again.
