How do you change brakes on a 93 Nissan pickup?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Loosen the bolt at the top of the caliper assembly (should be a 1/2 or 9/16). Pull the assembly down. If its hard, just tap it at the top with a hammer or pry it off with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the old brake pads and compress the caliper with a c clamp. Install the new pads and raise the assembly back into place. Tighten the bolt and you're done. Note: start with the side under the master cylinder. There should be no need to add any brake fluid. Just pump about 5 or 6 times omce you finish.

How do you remove the spare tire of a 1986 Nissan hard body?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is a long stick behind the seat that has a key on the end of it. Take it out and stick it into the like shaped hole by the rear license plate. Once inserted into the tube crank it(not sure if it's clockwise or counter) until the tire drops down. If you don't have the long stick fashion one out of a nail and a pair of vicegrips and climb under the rear of the truck and do the same thing with your homemade key.

The same way you set the timing of any Z24 engine. The vehicle it is in makes no difference. Do you know how to use a timing gun.

How do you put back alternator on 88 Nissan hardbody D21?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

On some models, the alternator is mounted very low on the engine. On these models, it may be necessary to remove the gravel shield and work from beneath the truck in order to gain access to the alternator.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the alternator pivot bolt. Push the alternator in and remove the drive belt.
  3. Pull back the rubber boots and disconnect the wiring from the back of the alternator.
  4. Remove the alternator mounting bolt and then withdraw the alternator from its bracket.

To install:

  1. Position the alternator in its mounting bracket and lightly tighten the mounting and adjusting bolts.
  2. Connect the electrical leads at the rear of the alternator.
  3. Adjust the belt tension as detailed in http://wiki.answers.com/8585CH01_1.xml.

Why would your 1994 Nissan truck V6 jump out of overdrive and downshift as soon as you let up on the gas at speeds over 40 mph?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Overdrive is designed and set to only work when you are at full throttle. The overdrive switch is located at the end of the accelerators travel on your carb or Fuel injection. You can adjust it to work at a lower level, but I wouldn't recommend it as it is only for emergency acceleration and hills.

What is correct timing for 1992 Chevrolet 57 liter pickup truck?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There should be a sticker on the radiator shroud that gives timing and spark gap values. All the Chevys I've done say 0 degrees btdc. Warm up the engine. Turn it off and unplug timing wire. On later models, the connector is located near the distributor (except for 1995 models; on these, it's located under the dash, below the glove box). Tan wire with a black stripe. Set timing to 0. Turn engine off. Plug timing wire back together. Reset ECM. ECM will recalibrate after driving a while.

How do you install thermostat on 89 Nissan pickup truck?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

THERMOSTAT REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1989 NISSAN TRUCK

See Figures 1 through 7

  1. Drain the engine coolant into a clean container, so that the level is below the thermostat housing.

CAUTION

When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

If necessary, disconnect the upper radiator hose at the water outlet.

  • Loosen the securing nuts, then remove the water outlet, gasket, and thermostat from the thermostat housing.
  • When installing the thermostat, always use a new gasket with sealer and make sure the thermostat spring is facing the inside of the engine. The water outlet housing on VG30i and VG30E engines has the letters UPR and an arrow embossed on the flange edge; they should always be pointing up. The KA24E, VG30i and VG30E engines have a jiggle valve on the thermostat which should always be facing up. Water outlet mounting screws should be tightened to 12-15 ft. lbs. (16-21 Nm) on all engines but the KA24E, which should be tightened to 5-6 ft. lbs. (7-8 Nm). Refill and check the coolant level.

How do you change starter on a 1996 Nissan truck?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First: Remove negative terminal on battery so you have no potential voltage at the starter.

It is one of the easiest of jobs doing yourself. First, jack up the front passenger side of the truck. Remove the tire. Now, carefully remove the rubber/plastic skirting in the fender well to expose the side of the engine where the starter is. Remove the two "easy to reach bolts" holding the starter in place. Unplug starter at connector. Remove main cable from battery but "remember the position/direction it is in to avoid difficulty" with the re-installation of new starter. Reverse process & surpise, job well done. Skirting might be old, so have large fender washers and self-tapping screws to re-attach skirting into place if plastic tabs are broken. Note: Be careful screws don't puncture anything on the other side. 1/2 long screws work well. Paint flat black to hide and reinstall the tire. Great job.
