What is the conflict about in the book Old Yeller?
The issue of human needs versus animal needs(the term animal rights was not yet coined) and the animal-sacrifice theme where the lead adult character shoots the Title character who has become rabid or infected with snake-bite. I never read the book but am familiar with reviews. It was one of the few live-action Disney films to have an unambiguous tragic ending- as opposed to one where say an animal ran off but could conceivably have been adopted by someone, this was final, shotgun death blast! The animal=sacrifice theme loosely pushed the outer perimeter of science fiction, such topics as , perhaps euthanasia, but has been used in some novels and also factual accounts such as the mis-titled (Ice pan) or Adventure on the Ice Pan, by Sir Wilfred Grenfell, the Labrador missionary. It"s based on fact, but if a novel, one might say a blend of Old Yeller and Jack London"s tales, as the location is the wiolds of the sub-arctic.

Old Yeller (***spoiler alert***) won his battle with the rabid wolf but would have died painfully anyway. The canine actor named Spike, who portrayed Old Yeller in the 1957 film, went on to star in the TV series The Westerner (1960), on Lassie in 1964 and in a 1969 movie before retiring. He died of old age some years later.

Why is the movie Old Yeller sad?
The lead character, a yellow Dog is not-so-accidentally fatally shot by the lead male adult character, after having become rabid. This is one of the very few Disney animal features (Live action) to have a tragic end. The phrase Old Yeller is some folkish variant of Yellow and does not refer to extra-loud barking! There are other films that end with the death of an animal, or a death of an animal is a major juncture in the plot ( like the original version of Toby Tyler where the monkey, Mr.Tubbs dies) but this is rather unusual. Can"t say I like it.
What is the theme in Old Yeller?
The Father or Uncle ( mature adult rancher) shoots the rabid dog! Thus Old Yeller dies and the story is ended. Animal sacrifice theme but rarely- this was one example, employed by Walt Disney, who did not write the story. It has nothing to do with science fiction, my Gawrsh!

What happens to each of the bulls at the end of the fight in Old Yeller?
The only bullfight I watched.
The dead bull was dragged out of the arena winched up and butchered in a matter of minutes.
I would not recommend bullfighting and would think only a small amount of the human species that attend this kind of event would find it for some reason entertaining.
I was totally disgusted
Who shot Old Yeller when he got rabies?
The 16 year old boy, Travis, shoots Old Yeller. Travis's dad is on a cattle run throughout most of the story. When Yeller gets bitten defending the family they put him in the corn crib, just to make sure he doesn't have rabies. When it becomes apparent that he does the mother goes to shoot him, but Travis stops her. He says something to the effect of no, ma, he's my dog I'll do it.
