What is the elimination system used in the Olympic archery compition?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The elimination system at the Olympics is called the "Set System."

So first, the archers go and shoot a ranking round. The top archer is paired with the lowest, the second highest with the second lowest, etc. Then, they have the elimination rounds.

So, first the archers each shoot 3 arrows within the time frame. They score the three arrows and find out who has the highest sum of points. The winner of this match gets two match points. If they both tie, then they each get one match point.

This goes on until someone gets to 6 match points first.

However...

If they both tie at 5 match points, then they have to have a one-arrow shoot-off.

During the shoot-off, the archer who hits closest to the center wins the tie and is declared the winner of the match.

After that they just move on like any elimination tournament and the winner of the finals wins the gold medal!

How old do you have to be to do olympic archery?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

there are no age limits in archery or any olympic sport.

the limiting factor is being able to hold and use the equipment sucessfully and score the points at the required distance.

I am a GNAS archer and former instructor but can never get better than Bowman 2nd class as my size and strength means I cannot fire the required number of shafts (arrows) over the distance needed to get to 1st class.

try it and if you get to qualifying standard ... go for it

What colour is the inner ring of an Olympic archery target?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Over the years and around the world many different designs of archery target have been used. I'm sure some had red in the centre.

However, today in target archery (e.g. as shot at the Olympics) the target face is standardised and the centre (which is never called the "Bullseye" by archers!) is yellow and is normally referred to as "Gold". An image of a target face can be found at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d5/Archery_Target_80cm.svg.

Other target faces do exist; the most noticeably different would be one used for field archery which is all black apart from the centre which is, again, gold.

Who has won the most medals for archery in the Olympics?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Another famous archer would be Fred Bear

The most famous real life archer would be William Tell.

The most famous fictional archer would be Robin Hood.

I would just like to point out that Robin Hood was not a fictional character, he was in fact a real life person.

(This is wrong, no historical evidence has come up suggesting that he was ever real, no legal documents, no bounties, nothing, only songs and stories, most scholars accept that Robin Hood was indeed, a fictional character.

some of the most famous archers are Levi Morgan, Dave cousins, Danny Mcarthy, Nathan Brooks etc. theres tons of them out there not to mention the huntreds of sponsored and prostaffed shooters

The furthest distance shot in "Target Archery" for men is 100 yards and 80 yards for ladies, the metric distances are 90mtrs for men and 70 mtrs for ladies. Shooting 70mtrs for the Olympics was introduced to try and make it more of a spectator sport and archers shoot head-to-head one arrow at a time (total 18), winner goes through to the next round.
