Ovulation will typically occur two weeks prior to menstruation - or day 14 during the average 28 day cycle - however unless you use a birth control method such as Fertility Awareness Method to track your fertility day-to-day you have no way of accurately determining when you are ovulating.

I wouldn't think ovulation would be painful unless there was a problem. If you are having stomach pains that aren't getting better, you should probably see a doctor.

I disagree with Leslie. There is something called Mittelshmerz, German for "middle pain", and this can happen during ovulation. So theres necessarliy anything wrong with you. But if continues and becomes more frequent, you should consult your doctor.

How do you know when you are ovulating?

There are a few options on where to buy an ovulation predictor kit, they could be available at your local pharmacy dependant on if they offer the product. Alternatively you may use websites relating to babycare and motherhood such as the website babycenter.

You ovulate 10-16 days BEFORE the start of your period. For example, if your cycle is 30 days long you will ovulate between cycle day 16 and day 20. SOME women get "egg white" cervical mucus (throughout the day - this is very different from arousal fluid and not to be confused with semen). Typically fertile cervical mucus will be present for 2-5 days around ovulation. This fluid will be clear or slightly cloudy, it will be either very wet (almost watery) or resemble an egg white. The rest of the cycle it may be creamy, sticky, pasty or dry. You should have intercourse the day of the positive test and the 2 days after.
