Why do you have to wait to wax a car with a new paint job?

Waiting to Wax a New CarBy waxing a new paint finish you are trapping the solvents that have not yet evaporated. Trapping the solvents can lead to blistering, refered to as "Solvent Popping" Although a paint finish may dry to the touch in a short time, the paint does not reach its complete hardness until all solvents have escaped. For the first polishing, I recommend using a polish that does not contain wax or silicones. These products are referred to in the industry as "Body Shop Safe". 3M Imperial Hand Glaze is good product for this but requires a lot of elbow grease. It hides all swirls, rags marks, etc, but will not trap solvents.

The car that is moving is normally the one at fault. No matter how someone is positioned you should not drive into them (going forward or in reverse). It therefore seems to me that the car backing out of the driveway is at fault.

depends what from? If its from a car/van then try rubbing car polish in a circular motion over it. If this doesn't work then bring the car to a paint shop or live with the scratch. (Depending on how bad the key scratch is, you may need to protect against rust).

What do you do if a body shop did a horrible job repairing your vehicle and you already signed over the insurance check?

You can contact your insurance company to see if they can intervene. If the body shop is part of the BBB then file a complaint. Once you sign the check over there are a limited amount of things you can do and acting fast is priority.

First contact the shop and explain nicely what you are not satisfied with.

If you don't get anywhere, see if your insurance company can get involved. If you have a lien holder, maybe someone there can help point you in the direction of where to go.

If your insurance company and lien holder do not help and you are getting no where with the body shop and they are not apart of the BBB. Then your next step is small claims court. Take the car to reputable body shops, try to get at least 3 or 4 opinions on the condition of the vehicle and see if they can write you a letter ot show up in court with you to explain in greater detail.

Also, take pictures ASAP and get a witness. If you have a problem with autobody repairs or paint jobs in California, you may call the Califonia Department of Consumer affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair @ 1-800-952-5210 or use the BAR weblink http://www.bar.ca.gov . This is a free service from the state of California who licenses auto repair shops and enforces the laws of the state of California. Bureau of Auto Repair also has a free autobody inspection program and will examine your repair job to insure that you received all the repairs you paid for and that industry accepted standards have been met or exceeded.

Can you buff a car with a new paint job?

Of course you can! Any decent spray painter will flat down the panel they have just painted with a very fine wet or dry paper then polish it back up with a good cutting compound like G3 using a machine polisher.

having worked as a painter with BMW and now have my own smart repair business, I do this with almost every job. This is done to remove any bits of dirt that may be in the paint

Why is paint usually stirred thoroughly before usage?

How do you spray paint your car so that it looks like a professional paint job?

The quality of your finish, no matter how you paint it, is going to be a direct result of the work you put in. Make sure everything is sanded and clean.

This is how I spray paint large object it takes a little practice but when done you cannot tell the difference. First repair anything that needs repaired and make sure everything is smooth and clean. Wet sand everything you are going to paint with 360 grit paper. Spray a couple coats of a sandable primer. Let that dry, wet sand that with 600 grit. Make sure everything's clean, spray a coat of primer-sealer. Spray your color, at least twice as many coats as you think you'll need, vary the direction pattern you spray between coats to avoid color banding and minimize color variation, you may need to practice this, this is the part most people have trouble with. Let the color dry for a day, wet sand it smooth with 600, 1500, and 2000 grit paper. It should be glossy now. Let it finish drying for the next week. After the week has passed apply twice as much clear coat as you thing you will need. Allow the clear to dry over night, then sand similar to the color. Then let the clear dry for at least a week, buff with a mild buffing compound and wax. Now admire your work, and make up some lie about how you paid a bodyshop $5000 for it.

Okay...look, spray paint is too expensive to paint a car with, and there are much better products that don't cost very much.

If you don't want to use the tractor paint, try Rustoleum. There's a guy on the internet who tells you how to paint a car with Rustoleum and a brush. What I'd recommend is to buy two Rustoleum products--their Rusty Metal Primer and one of their enamels. They've got one that can be tinted, and that's handy. Also get a Wagner Power Painter, and you'll need paint thinner.

Fix all the dents and stuff on the car. Prime the car with Rusty Metal Primer, then let it dry for a week. Paint the car with two coats of enamel, with a day or so between coats. Give it a month to cure, then use 2000-grit sandpaper to polish it up. 2000-grit paper feels very smooth, and it will polish up the paint well. You can also use polishing compound. Finally, wax it and you're done.

Answer

Take it to a body shop and have it repainted - aerosol cans are not capable of spraying the same kind of paint as a professional and even if they could the propellant and method of application that an aerosol can uses is massively inferior to a professional's spray gun and it does not properly atomize the paint as it is sprayed on the vehicle, as a result the spray pattern is not as constant or predictable and paint is applied unevenly (thicker in some areas than in others) this will always result in color variance. Aerosol cans were simply not intended for this purpose, you may as well use a paint brush.
