Is Paranormal Activity film fiction or non-fiction?

Paranormal Activity is NOT real footage, and it is NOT based on a true story, either. It is 100% fictional (make-believe). See the Related Question for more details, including links to the movie's official website, where the writer/director explains how he came up with the idea.

There are a lot of people out there who seem to be totally convinced that it's real footage (or, at least, based on a true story), and I'm guessing they have confused you. I promise you, they are misinformed. It's not real; it's not partly real, or based on something real, or even inspired by something real. It's a totally fictional story and all of the footage is fake. The director and actors have said so themselves, as they are NOT dead or missing and have in fact done many interviews since the movie was released.

And in fact, passing off a fictional movie as the truth is nothing new. The Blair Witch Project did the exact same thing 10 years ago. The movie The Blair Witch Project was advertised as real, undoctored footage. Supposedly these three kids had gone missing while camping in the woods, doing a film project on the Blair Witch. No trace of them was ever found...except for the footage they shot. The footage shows them being stalked and terrorized by an unseen evil spirit (the Blair Witch).

All of it is completely fake. There's no Blair Witch, and all three kids are alive and well. They were never missing; again, the entire thing was fake.

You should always be suspicious when a movie claims to be the truth, or based on the truth, because at best this is usually an exaggeration, and at worst it's an outright lie. Many films claim to be based on true stories when they're not: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Strangers, Fargo, Spinal Tap, Rose Red. All of these movies were advertised as being "based on a true story," when in fact they are not. They are fiction.

Even movies that really ARE based on a true story are still mostly fictional. For example, The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut. These films were supposedly based on the experiences that two families had living in haunted houses. These two families (the Lutz's from Amityville, and the Snedekers from Connecticut) really do exist, and they really did live in these supposedly haunted houses. But are the houses REALLY haunted?

Both The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut have been called hoaxes. The Amityville Horror has been pretty much proven to be a hoax, or at the very least, an extreme exaggeration. And even Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigator who helped both of these families and still believes their claims, insists that the movies are only "very, very loosely based" on the real events.

The Exorcist was supposedly based on a true story, but it too may have been a hoax (or, a case of misdiagnosed mental illness). Same thing with The Exorcism of Emily Rose. It's based on a supposedly true case of demonic possession (the "real" possessed girl was named Anneliese Michel), but the events depicted in the film are still primarily fictional.

Again, be VERY wary when a movie claims to be "based on a true story." Usually, it's either an extreme exaggeration, or an outright lie. The bottom line is, if it were REALLY a true story, then it would be labeled a "documentary." Same thing with a novel. It may claim to be based on a true story, but unless it's labeled a "memoir," you should be very suspicious.

Is Micah Sloat and Katy Featherston really dead?

No. The movie Paranormal Activity is make-believe, just like any other movie. It merely employs a realistic filming style, as in The Blair Witch Project.

Is the movie Megan is missing real?

No, it's not. I have heard the same rumor. And if it is, it's not going to show for a while.

The story was written by the Director Michael Goi and he based it on research he conducted of actual events. The characters in the movie are all paid actors and their profiles are available on imdb.com

Is there a real Katie and Micah?

The movie Paranormal Activity is not real footage. Nor is it based on a true story. It's 100% fictional. However, the lead actors are actually named Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat in real life. The director had them give their characters their own real names, in order to help perpetuate the illusion that the movie is real.

Did Micah Sloat really die in Paranormal Activity?

In the movie, he is stabbed to death (probably with that big kitchen knife we saw him using in the beginning). In real life, he and Katie are just fine. The movie was make-believe; all of the footage is fake. The actors gave their characters their real names, but everything else is totally made up.

People have seen ghostly figures. Mostly 60% has been proven true. But no reason to be scared. Paranormal activity specialists have proven that when human beings die that the only way that they could come back to earth or if you will rise is if they die on accident such as getting murdered. Also the specific place the ghost haunts in is the exact place its human soul died.

What are the educational requirements for paranormal investigating?

In truth there currently are no real requirements for paranormal investigation.

Paranormal investigation is the casual practice of examining claims of apparitional and poltergeist activity in field settings. Paranormal investigators use various techniques to try to determine the reality of the claims. Many desire to document their findings using various technologies including photography, video and audio recording, and various environmental monitoring tools.

Some paranormal investigators seek to debunk paranormal claims while others with a typically more metaphysical focus seek to help others understand their experiences. As such these two groups represent the ends of a rather broad belief system in paranormal matters. There is no middle-ground and few paranormal investigators are truly without some beliefs on the subject.

In order to perform paranormal investigations, one should have some knowledge of science and psychology. Unfortunately most paranormal investigation teams lack this knowledge. A good first step would be an undergraduate degree in an established science. An alternative would be an undergraduate degree in philosophy. Paranormal investigators must appreciate the limits of their techologies and have an understanding of the nature of the people who they wish to serve. Only degrees of this sort can bring this sort of orderly understanding that is required.

Online courses that purport to train people to become 'paranormal investigators' or something similar should be avoided. None to date appears to be credible. You can test this by simply asking about the credentials of the training entity. If they are not university trained, it is likely they will not be able to provide the education required.

It is also wise to avoid courses focused solely on metaphysical topics, including things like 'demonlogy'.

Serious investigators should be remain abreast of current thinking in research Parapsychology, and so should read journals such as the Journal of Parapscyhology and the Journal of the Society for Scientific Exploration as a basis.

Is Paranormal Activity scary?

If you belive in demon's from hell or demons from a bad place then you will find it scary! If you don't belive in any of that stuff, like me, then you wont find it scary. If you live in a house that has creepy rooms and creeky floor boreds and there are alot of unexplained noises in your home, i wouldn't watch it.

Paranormal Activity isn't exactly a scary movie, it doesnt have gory scenes or alot of violence, what makes it scary is the main idea of the movie (ghosts,spirits,possesion...)

Answer

I thought it was pretty darn scary. Actually, I enjoyed it so much, I watched it 2 times in one night, and then another 2 times a few days later.

The fact that it isn't violent doesn't mean it's not a horror movie. The horror movie genre is not defined by gore or violence. Rather, horror movies are defined by their intent. If a movie is primarily intended to scare people, then it's a horror movie.

Violence are gore are often a part of horror movies, but that is merely incidental. Most people are afraid of being attacked violently, so naturally, violence and gore often find their way into movies that are intended to scare people.

The primary purpose of a horror movie is to scare people, and there are many, many things that people are afraid of besides violence. It is often said that what man fears most is the unknown. That is how supernatural horror movies manage to be scary, without being violent.

Paranormal Activity is one of those movies that explores our fear of the unknown. In my opinion, what lies beyond our notion of physical reality will always be much more terrifying than even the most extreme forms of violence.

Who stared in paranormal entity?

I just need to know the son thomas finley, the daughter Samantha finley, and the mother Ellen finley...and did the son ever die??because he doesnt appear at the end of the movie after he screams

Why is Katie being haunted in Paranormal Activity?

You actually don't find this out until the sequel, Paranormal Activity 2. In that movie, you find out that one of Katie and Kristy's ancestors made a deal with the demon for wealth or power. Payment to the demon for that deal was the first born male child in the family.

In Paranormal Activity 2, Kristy gives birth to Hunter, who is the first male child born to the family in several generations. This is why the demon haunts Kristy because it is after her son. Kristy's husband figures this out and realizes you can transfer the demon to someone else, but it has to be a relative. Therefore, he transfers the demon to Katie in order to save his wife and son.

What did the ending mean in the movie paranormal incident?

I see it as a playful ending to a playful movie. A gardener who apparently is just a simple man, gets mistaken by the public and media for some kind of great thinker or guru, but then at the end he walks out onto a lake, seemingly performing a biblical-type miracle; the movie tells us that things can always turn out to be different from what they seem, and sometimes there are multiple layers of mysteries.

Where can you find the theater ending to Paranormal Activity?

There is no real story. Paranormal Activity is an entirely fictional (make-believe) movie. It is not based on any one true story or stories.

What does the demon want in Paranormal Activity?

A devil that was unexplained.

> The demon in paranormal activity was most likely a single demon tied to the family with a goal after giving an older member something, most likely wealth.

From the second movie you can get that the demon has been there a while and wants the son. Why is this?

This is also explained: The demon is after the boy because, through quick implications from the script, he's the first to be born in a few generations. The demon was probably promised the son in exchange for its gift, and when the child was born it wanted him.

It scared to gain power, then attacked and killed to remove any obstacle.
