What is the human population of polar ice cap biomes?
No humans live on polar ice caps... except the neanderthals of course. You thought they were extinct, but really they just live on the ice caps. Really, go check it out. Make sure you bring along a torch though because they get a little grumpy sometimes. Back to the population question....once you go there to check out the neanderthals, the population will be one. Because of course, you are an idiot if you believe neanderthals are still alive, and even more of an idiot if you actually use this site.
Can a polar bear survive in the woods?
It is doubtful as polar bears are found on polar icecaps and tundra. Seals and other prey of the polar bear are generally not found in forests.
Why do polar bears have to be white?
Well, they don't HAVE to look white, but it does help them sneak up on their prey better in the great white north and to be more hidden in their snowy dens with their young, to keep them from predators.
Their fur is actually not even white, it is more the color of our fingernails, sort of the yellowish milky transparent color of keratin which is what hair and finger nails are made of. Their fur just doesn't have additional color pigments added to the natural color of the keratin. It looks white because of its reflective abilities in the light. There are long guard hairs and a shorter undercoat, the longer hairs are hollow. This allows them to hold air that insulates the bear from cold. It also allows some sun to make it to their skin so it can absorb the heat, their skin is black and absorbs the light rays, but, so they don't overheat now that they are adapted to the extreme cold of the Arctic, the hair also can reflect a large amount of the light on long sunny days to keep them from getting too hot with the black skin.
Besides, everyone likes something that looks soft, warm, fuzzy and pure white!
Are polar bears found in the Arctic or the Antarctic or both?
Polar bears live in the Arctic. There is no food chain to support animals in Antarctica.
Polar bears live in the arctic and penguins live in the antarctic
yeah he was a real man who lived in the arctic alone with his sled dogs hunting polar bears because he said they killed his family. people in the village nearby believed he was a crazy man until the whole village was wiped out and completely frozen over. people all over the world heard of this and feared for a frost. none came but the mark is now all over the world
Are polar bears the only animal that can walk on water?
No. As a matter of fact, polar bears cannot even walk on water. They can walk on ice, but that is technically not water.
The animals that walk on water are water striders, Jesus lizards (corytophanid lizards of the genus Basiliscus), and other small insects such as mosquitoes and small flies that have mastered the technique of landing on water without breaking the surface tension of the water.
Does the polar bear's hair conduct light therefore heat?
Very good question. Actually, I may be wrong but I believe I read or saw somewhere that polar bear hair has a certain florecence therefor conducting light, which conducts heat.
Do polar bears eat wolverines?
Yes, there there has been many documented cases of polar bears eating wolverines. Due to climate change they have migrated more south to wolverine predominate habitats.
Source National Geographic 1985
Wolverines have been known to appropriate carcasses from bears. They are very aggresive, and there is no evidence polar bears feed on wolverines at all in the text. None.
What are the martian ice caps made of?
They are believed to be mainly dry ice
85% Frozen carbon dioxide
15% Frozen water
no they prefer colder places such as the North Pole or the South Pole. They could live in a Maine zoo tho.
Strong legs and webbed feet, as well as a thick, dense coat which does not allow the cold Arctic water to penetrate to the skin.
No. The ermine's natural predators include hawks, owls, larger mammals and snakes.
The polar bear's territory doesn't typically overlap with the ermine's, which live in temperate-cold climates where they can find a food source.
How are polar bears adapted to their habitat?
Which of these would be measured to determine the density of the polar bear population in Canada?
The number of bears per square kilometer
Why does the female polar bear sleep in a cave all winter?
The cave keeps her warm and protects her from the freezing Arctic winds.
What does a polar bear live in a den burrow nest?
Polar bears live in dens. The dens can get up to 98 degrees Fahrenheit (they are made of snow).
What does 'being desirable' mean?
desirable means that you are wanted, most of the times in a sexual way.
Why are polar baers in danger?
Polar Bears are very vulnerable to climate change and human hunting. Due to their sheer size, they have no natural predators except themselves. Large males have been known to kill off younger/smaller bears to cut out on competition. Man has been hunting these giant carnivores for centuries for its skin and fur. As of now, approximately 20000 to 25000 animals exist in the Arctic wilderness. Their numbers are steadily declining due to habitat loss and hunting. Oil and Gas exploration in the Arctic too is a significant cause for the decline in Polar Bear numbers. Due to human activity and global warming, the ice caps are melting. So, the effective land that the bears have for hunting is coming down. Pollution too is killing off prey species. So, everything put together is endangering the species.
What would happen if polar bears at the North Pole if the environment suddenly became very warm?
They would not live
Where in the artic is the polar bear located?
the polar bear is in the north of Canada, Norway, Russia and Greenland.
Why don't male polar bears help take care for his cubs?
because the mamma bear attacks the daddy bear.
If you weighed 128 pounds how long would you have to do bear crawls to lose 1 pound of body fat?
That's a pretty hard question to answer, as there's ALOT of variables. Every person has a different metabolism, and your body type may be more predisposed to losing bodyfat, or holding onto it. Also, it depends on your body fat percentage. If you are already skinny, chances are it will be very difficult to lose a pound of body fat (And not muscle). A pound of fat on your body is about 3500 calories. That's 3500 calories your body will use because it can't get the calories it needs from eating. Our bodies are built for survival, and incase of a famine, it will hold onto the pound of body fat for dear life. But lets assume that Glycogen stores were completely gone and all our body had to use was the fat stored. And we are going to make alot of assumptions. Lets assume you burn 10 calories per minute of a pretty intense bear crawl (Backwards, and up a hill). If you have 3,500 calories to burn, it would take 350 minutes, which is 5.8 hours. So that'd be 5.8 hours, bearcrawling, constantly, up an infinite hill. But of course, it's never as simple as that.
