Not really, because A) children can be too rough and playfull and B) smaller dogs are generally too fragile. However, children of the right age and temperment can work out. ya toy poodle's are capable of playing with children as long as the dog be kept away when the kids get too rough like i do to toffee ( my toy poodle) when my little bro roughhouses with his frnds.

You got it right on the shedding part(I would know. I have one.) , but golden retrievers need a bath more frequently than a poodle. But poodles also need to be combed ad brushed more.

I feel dry food is best for dogs teeth because it cleans the tarter. As dogs get older the tarter builds up and their gums become sore and your dog won't eat the hard types of foods which they need. Brush their teeth every day. To get your dog to gain a taste for dry food mix water or other liquid and let soak until kibbles become softer. I like the Eukenuba brand. Poodles can eat fresh baked, boiled chicken, plain yogurt, apples, rice, steamed carrots,steamed green beans. Don't feed your dog chocolate, acid foods, or junk foods like pizza, or fast foods are not good for dogs because it causes food allergies, skin problems, stomach upsets.

Poodles are extremely intelligent and learn through operant conditioning, just like any other dog. Get some small treats or break medium sized treats into pieces. Have the dog smell the treat and move away before they can eat it. Say a command and if they do not respond physically do it for them. I.e. sit... if they don't sit, push their bottoms down until they are sitting. Give them the treat then, even if you had to make them follow the command. Make sure you are SAYING the command. Continue to do this until they catch on and do it themselves to get to the treat faster.

To eliminate undesirable behaviors, look at the dog and tell them no as you gesture toward what they have done or are doing. Once they stop, perhaps pass the vacuum-- most dogs hate the vacuum.
