What is the difference between forecast and prediction?

Difference between Budget and Forecast

Once the financial objectives have been set, it is possible to prepare and agree a budget. A budget should relate the overall plan in figures. It is different from a forecast in the sense that the plan, and therefore the budget, sets minimum requirements, whereas a forecast is usually an expectation of what is likely to happen.

Example:

You might choose to budget for sales of £180,000 and use this figure in calculating your likely expenditure, profit and so on. Based on your market research, however, you predict sales of £200,000, and set a target of £220,000, in order to stretch your sales force. If all your costs are covered by the budgeted figure, then you will make a greater profit if you achieve the forecast and a still greater one if you achieve the target. (Whilst this is an important distinction, in practice for most businesses the forecast and budget will be the same.)

What is meant by perceptual linear prediction?

Perceptual Linear Prediction (PLP) is a method used in speech processing to model the human auditory system's response to sounds. It aims to improve the accuracy of speech signal representation by taking into account human perception characteristics, such as frequency masking and critical bands. PLP is often used in speech recognition systems to enhance the efficiency of feature extraction.

What is the difference between inferring and predicting?

Inferring is taking info you already have and reaching conclusions. By using what is around you to come to a conclusion

Predicting is making a statement or claim on something in the future. guessing
They are very similar but not the same thing.

A prediction is the act of reasoning about the future based on past experience. For example, we can confidently predict that day will follow night. With prediction you can guess what happens before and during the story or reaction. You don't really need any evidence you're just foretelling what you think what will happen.

You infer by drawing a conclusion that combines information you already know with information stated in the text. While inference you need some clues to infer. An inference you will need some evidence or clues to judge off of.

Example:

Prediction- Rok picked up a random book and predicted that it was comedy.

Inference- Rok picked up a random book and looked at the cover and read three pages of it. Rok inferred that it was comedy based on the laughing people on the cover and the jokes in the three pages.

How do you know your predictions?

Now you can believe me or not, but I completely assure you it depends on your age. If you seem to ''get'' predictions in your head around 8-13yrs. old, then you CAN'T be completely sure. If your14-21yrs old... your probably ALMOST completely sure. And now 23- 45 you AREgoing to be sure, and SOMETIMES a day off. 46 and above, I'm sorry, I have no idea. How do i know all of this?...Well if you want to know keep reading, if you don't, go on with your life!! ; ) OK anyhow. If you read this, I think it might help with other questions!

Once me and my mom were talking about predictions and she told me she can predict deaths. Does that mean everyone will? No just her, for now!! Anyways I told her I wake up in the middle of the night, ONLY after NIGHTMARES or WEIRD dreams, I would think, "Some thing's going to happen..." In a couple of days, weeks, and so on. She said it just comes to her. Like the day my Grandfather died. She woke up and told my dad, ''March 14th'' and that's when he died, (fake date) She also said when you're younger you can only say like in a couple of weeks or days but the older you are the more precise you are. (like February 18th or something) So that's all i can tell.

Hey, its the same person from above.... and it REALLY needs to be revised. If anyone is reading this, please just tell me because everything above is from.... a very low perspective. Age has nothing to do with it. At the time, I thought it did. But that was before I met some one. So if you really want to know, just tell me and I'll revise it. (the reason I say this is because, what if no one has even looked at this question, so what would the point be in revising it?)

How accurate was john Casey's predictions?

Just watched a documental where most of his predictions have been proven true and the ones that have not been proven true is impossible to prove them false. The span of his vision went anywhere from the medical field, to the financial field to the geological formation of the Earth. He was able to cure his son's potential blindness and prevent his wife's death from tuberculosis after a doctor's prognosis that his son would become blind due to the severity of the burns in his eye and his wife would die due to the advanced stage of her tuberculosis. He predicted where oil fields could be found and the future health of the financial markets. The scariest thing is he predicted the flipping of the Earth's axis and what consequences it would bring including serious floodings is coastal areas and so on. After watching this documental I have decided to research his life and predictions because they appear to be extremely accurate and I am certain a lot can be learned from them.

If your prediction is proven incorrect you should leave out all observations that don't support your prediction or simply change your prediction?

It is not scientifically valid to selectively ignore information that contradicts a prediction or change a prediction based on preconceived beliefs. It is important to consider all evidence, even if it goes against the initial prediction, in order to draw valid conclusions and refine future predictions. This approach is fundamental to the scientific method and ensures the integrity of the research process.

What is the formula to get a predicted vital capacity?

I'm no expert on this but I'm in a physiology class now and just finished a lab on pulmonary volumes and capacities. We used the following formulas to calculate predicted vital capacity:

Males: VC = (0.052 x Height in cm) - (0.022 x Age in years) - 3.6

Females: VC = (0.041 x Height in cm) - (0.018 x Age in years) - 2.69

My lab manual references a study by Kory, Hamilton, Callahan:1960 for this formula. I was in the process of trying to find that study when I can across your question. Hope this helps.

Is predict and foretell the same thing?

Yes ==== Although foretell and predict are often used interchangeably, predict implies a deduction from facts. Forecast is closer to predict than foretell, which has a mystical aura to it.

Who discovered that electron paths cannot be predicted?

Niels Bohr proposed the theory that electron paths in an atom are unpredictable and follow certain fixed orbits. This concept was an important development in the field of quantum mechanics and helped to explain the stability of atoms.

If you know the constant velocity of a moving object what can you predict?

If you know the constant velocity of a moving object, you can predict its position at any future time by multiplying the velocity by the time elapsed. This assumes that the object continues to move at that constant velocity without any external forces acting on it.

What are some examples of predictions?

The Mayans predicted that the world will end on December 21, 2012. (However, it is still a controversy to this day, so it is most likely that the world will still be going beyond 2012.)

Can you predict if a Tornado is coming?

To a limited degree. It is possible to detedct a tornado and its immediate precursors with Doppler radar, but this cannot tell when the tornado will touch down, how long it will last, or if it will change course. Beyond this, weather conditions can tell if a given areas is at risk from tornadoes on a given day, but cannot tell where indivitdual tornadoes will strike.
