What is the equation used to determine probability in what ways can probability be expressed?
Probability = number of times an event is expected to happen / number of opportunities for an event to happen
It can be expressed as a percentage or a fraction.
What is the probability that by guessing one can correctly guess the month of a birth of a stranger?
Simplified, it would be 1 in 12, however it gets a bit more technical based on the result that more people will be born in a 31 day month than a 28 day month. I'll flag this for more info
When does the probability of an event equals one?
The probability of an event is one when the event is absolutely certain to happen.
It is more useful to understand why the sum of probabilities of an event adds up to one. If you have an event with a probability of p, then the probability of the event not occurring is 1 - p. This is because p plus (1 - p) is 1. That seems trivial, but consider a realistic example...
Lets say you are subject to random drug testing, and that you are in a 100% pool such as might be mandated by 10CFR26, "Fitness for Duty in a Commericial Nuclear Power Plant". What is the probability that you will be chosen at least once in a year?
Well, if sampling occurs five days a week, then there are 260 samples per year. The probability of being chosen in one sample is 1 in 260, or 0.003846. That means the probability of not being chosen is 259 in 260, or 0.9962. The probability, then, of not being chosen in one year is (259 in 260) raised to the 260th power, or 0.3672, which is about 95 in 260. Invert once again, and you see that the probability of being chosen at least one time in a year is 165 in 260, or 0.6328.
What is the probability of your birthday being the same as mine?
The probability of two people's birthday being the same is actually more likely than many would think. The key thing is to note that it doesn't matter what the first person's birthday is. All we need to work out is the probability that the second person has a birthday on any specific day. This probability is 1/365.25
The probability that they were born on June 10th is 1/365.25. The probability that they were born on February 2nd is 1/365.25 and the probability that they were born on the same day as you is 1/365.25
Chance of dying in a triple bypass surgery?
1in 100 people what you dont know you dont know but what i say is what you should know
The probability of success is determined by the probability of failure and vice versa?
Yes, but only if there are only two outcomes for an experiment: success and failure. If there are more than two outcomes possible, for example Win, Draw or Lose, the outcomes have to be grouped so that the assertion in the question remains valid.
Also, note that in everyday use there is a positive connotation for the word "success". This is not the case in probability theory. If you want the probability of a person being killed by a lightning strike, then success requires thaa person being killed. I somehow don't think the person would consider that a "success".
What are equally likely events event in probability?
If there are two possible outcomes, the probability would be 50% or 1/2 (AN EVEN CHANCE). "Equally likely events" refers to the chances of each possible outcome among many being equal. For example, using a six-sided die in a dice game yields a 1/6 chance for any one of the numbers to appear on top of the cube. Assuming that the die is not loaded, all six numbers are presumed to have an equal likelihood to end up on top in a given throw.
Why are transplant between identical twins be more successful than fraternal twins?
I am in the medical field, and if you need a little more detail....Read on down:
Identical twins share an IDENTICAL genotype (genetic make-up). They were the result of a split into two human beings of ONE egg. All of the information on that egg was equally divided to create two people that are identical. The success of ANY transplant is based on how close you can match the genetics. That is why they take samples of blood and marrow, etc., to test. When you are planning to donate organs, they try to type and match the organ to the recipient.
Fraternal twins share FAMILY genetics, but not identical genetics. Family that can donate is desired for being "as close as you can get", very often, but Fraternal Twins do not share the exact same genotype. Fraternal twins are from TWO SEPARATE eggs, fertilized by two different sperm. Each egg and sperm carries different information genetically, and the possibilities are endless as far as creation of a human being, because you have eons of genetic history passed down. It is even possible that Fraternal twins--as with any family member--may not be a good match for a recipient.
At any rate...with Identical Twins, a transplant is more likely to be successful because it is like taking an organ out of one of your "selves" and putting it back into yourself. It should be a perfect match, and identical to the organ that is being replaced.
No it is not real listen to what happened to me when i was doing something in THE EVENT and you will see why it is not real. i am 11 years old and i tried out in toronto and when i made the first cut i was so happy then when my mom searched THE EVENT up on the internet nothing showed up so with thought it was a computer glitch or something like that. So we went to the second cut and my sister made the first cut 2 by the way and they said that they had picked me for the third cut in orlando florida and they started asking for 8000 dollars and my mom said no because it was too much but i was so mad i started saying mean things to her like "when it is real and i am not there i will never talk to you ever again" and i marched up into my room crying for like an hour straight. It was so sad when she told me no but when she went up to my room and told me to look up on the internet "different scams that make people sad" the first one that popped up was THE EVENT i forgave her and everything was OK but we still wanted to look up one more thing. ORLANDO FLORiDA to see if they have any up coming events with the company THE EVENT and there was not any so we new it was a scam. If there are any kids reading this right now do not yell at your mom and dad about something you are not sure about. Just don't because you will not have a good feeling afterwards. But if it makes you feel an better tell your parents to right an e-mail to them. not saying anything about the scam they did just tell them to say how bad you felt and how much lots of other people will probably feel really sad sorry if i spelt probably wrong anyway you should always research something before you ever go to it that is what i learned after trying out for THE EVENT 5 times this year you never know when someone is going to come around with a scam that sounds real.
What does it mean when all the theoretical probabilities are the same?
All that it means is that you have chosen to divide up the event space into events that are equally likely.
When is non probability sampling appropriate?
In some situations stratified random sampling may be more appropriate. You may have a population which can be divided up into a number of subsets (strata) such that the difference between units in different strata is much greater than the difference between units within each stratum. A probability sample may not have enough units from some of the smaller strata. A stratified random sample will ensure that each stratum is represented proportionally.
In other situations, cluster sampling may be more appropriate. Suppose you wish to visit a sample 1% of all schools in the country. If you were to choose the schools by probability sampling they would be all over the country and you would require a huge amount of time and money to visit them all. What you could do, instead, is to divide up the country into 1000 regions. Select 10 of these regions (1%) and then visit every school in the selected regions. Far less running around!
What is the probability of flipping 5 coins and getting all tails?
The probability of getting all tails is 1/25 = 1/32
What does the 'hits' mean in hockey statistics?
Usually body checks that made an opposing player lose control of the puck
AnswerAt the end of the 2002 season hits were no longer kept track of because it was too hard to judge exactly what one was. Unlike shot and saves, it is hard to train a stat keeper on what one is. AnswerI don't know where this guy got his information but the NHL still keeps the hits statistic. I was curious about this myself so I asked my old coach, he said the "hit" stat is counted as when a player forces an opposing player to lose the puck through physical contact. a hit only counts if it A. causes a turnover or B. makes opposing player lose control of the puck. for example, if a player hits an opposing player after he has passed the puck or shot it, it is not counted as a hitThe word that goes to this definition a probability of 0 means the event is?
A probability of 0 means the event is impossible.
What is the theoretical probability of rolling a number that is a multiple of 2 and a 6 sided die?
ans2. The probability of an even number resulting; from a large number of throws; would be 1/2. For 1/2 of the numbers 1 - 6 are even.
How many decks of cards are used for blackjack in casinos?
It depends on the blackjack variation that you are playing -- it can be played with as few as 1 deck and as many as 8 decks. Since- and double-deck games are dealt by hand, while games with 4, 6, and 8 decks are dealt from a shoe.
In general, the higher the number of decks that are used corresponds to more liberal betting options available to a player. For example, in a single-deck game, players can double on 9, 10, or 11 only, while in an 8 deck game, the player can double on any two cards.
Also, many casinos have moved to paying 6-5 for a single-deck blackjack, while continuing to pay 3-2 for a blackjack from a 4, 6, or 8 deck game.
