What do Muslims not eat?

The food that is allowed for Muslim to eat and what is forbidden for him to eat is based, mainly, on the following two Quran sayings (Meaning English translation):

  1. Quran, Chapter 5, verse 3: " Forbidden (for food) to you (Muslims) are: Al-Maitah (dead animals - cattle - beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine (Pork), and that on which Allah's name has not been mentioned while slaughtering, (that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah or has slaughtered for idols) and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns- and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal - unless being able to slaughter it (before its death)-.... But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin by eating what is forbidden above, then surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful"
  2. Quran, Chapter 5, verse 5: " Made lawful to you this day At-Tayyibat (all kinds of lawful foods, which Allah has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits). The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them..."
From the above, it is clear that what is forbidden to eat, except in cases of severe hunger, are mainly dead animals, Pork, blood, and what is not slaughtered under name of God.

How will you know whether Allah has forgiven?

Forgiveness of sins by Allah is something that we all need to seek, for all of us have sinned. Forgiveness, which includes divine pardon and complete remission of sin, is available, on condition of repentance. If you kneel in prayer coming before Allah with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, having faith that He will hear your prayer. And if you have a desire to forsake all of your sins, He will forgive you.

You will feel either feel a great peace come over you, or there may be a burning sensation within your breast. However Allah wished to convey to you that you are forgiven you will know with certainty that you are forgiven.

Remember that lasting forgiveness is conditioned upon ones faithfulness.

What is the Qur'an believed to be?

Quran is the holy book that reflects real God words revelation to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Gabriel (or Jibril).

The following are some highlights on what is revealed in Quran:

  • Call for worship of Allah (God), the one and only one God, with no partner and no companion and no son
  • correcting previous faiths and previous holy book texts from alterations introduced by human
  • describing ritual worship and relevant obligations
  • setting God commands as for what to do and what not to do
  • laying down basis for true faith and right path to God
  • tales of old nations for gaining lessons for true faith and good life
  • giving scientific statements that were only validated by current technologies and discoveries to provide evidences on the authenticity and miracle of Quran as god revelation and not human written text.
  • reminding with the Day of Judgment to be prepared for it
  • describing the 2nd life and the paradise and hell fire.

How can Quran claim itself to be the book that makes things clear when nobody clearly knows the meanings of alif lam meem alif lam meem saad alif lam raa ta ha ya seen etc even today?

Quran makes clear all the articles of faith, ritual worships, morals and ethics, rules for marriage, divorce, inheritance, human relations, peace, fighting, treating parents, caring orphans and the poor, ... etc.

However, it is Allah (God in English) will and wisdom to maintain mysteries and scientific miracle statements in Quran to be disclosed in different ages and centuries. However, these mysteries and scientific miracles has nothing to do with the basic articles of faith, ritual worships, morals and ethics, and other rules of Islamic life. Otherwise, it would have been very easy and straight forward that prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explains the Quran. In this case, all the doors of thinking, striving to explore Quran mysteries, and discover of Quran miracles will be closed and sealed.

You might think that, but a woman that lives in Saudi, doesn't have to be a Muslim to suffer.

  • The Quran (alternate spellings: Quraan, Qura'n, Kuran, Koran, Kura'n) is the holy book of Islam. The Quran was revealed to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from God by the angel Gabriel about 600 years after Jesus' birth. The revelation started by 610 AD and continued until 632 AD, the year of prophet Muhammad's death.
  • One of the primary objectives of revelation in the Quran is to call people to worship one and only one God, without father, son, spirit, or duplicate of any kind. Also the Quran reveals that some of the previous revelations from God, including some texts of the Torah, the Psalms and the Gospels, have been changed and falsified over time, necessitating the need for a final revelation.
  • The preaching sections of the Quran remind people about the coming of the Day of Judgment and then urges that this Day should be taken into consideration during one's lifetime. You are urged to be grateful to your God by doing good works. Good works are characterized by being socially relevant, that is, of benefit to society. The preaching considers a central theme that people should be conscious of God during this life and follow the direction of the way of God. The way of God is not defined by dogma but is indicated operationally in two ways. The first pertains to carrying out actions characterized only by being beneficial to the welfare of humanity (society). The second involves the means of gaining faith in God through observing His creation.
  • The Qur'an stresses that all previous messengers and prophets of God are fully human and not divine.
  • The Qur'an also contains teaching related to previous prophets. This teaching involves reminding Jews and Christians of some aspects of their Scriptures and traditions, and their basic deviations from God's original revelations. Among the more important teachings are ones dealing with the divinity of Jesus and the concept of Judaic exclusiveness. The Qur'an invites Jews and Christians to hear and accept the new message.
  • Included in the Qur'an are statements and principles that establish the position of mankind on earth, and that provide guidance and freedom of choice. As a consequence of granting freedom of choice to mankind, religious diversity is taken for granted, so the Quran contains the principles regulating the dynamic coexistence among the various communities, faiths, and cultures.
  • The Quran also deals with rituals such as praying, fasting, food restrictions, and pilgrimage.
  • The Quran deals also with some aspects of social regulations like inheritance, punishment, marriage and divorce, and so on.
  • The Quran also laid down the principles of human rights, women's rights, equality of all people regardless of gender, belief, race, or culture.
  • One of the proofs that the holy book Quran was not written by humans or extracted from other books and that the Quran was a revelation from God to Prophet Mohamed is that the Quran includes many scientific statements that were only later proved by science. These statements are considered to be scientific miracles of the Quran; they were revealed by God 14 centuries ago and were validated in modern times. In this regard some words are quoted below by Dr. Maurice Bucaille (an eminent medical scientist and a member of the French Academy of Medicine). He is the author of the book entitled "The Bible, The Quran and Science."

"Science and Islam's close relationship with it played a tremendous role in strengthening my faith and that of scientists throughout history - even today! This is a fascinating section - do take time to explore it!"
