Why is the Renaissance a significant period in history?
I'm assuming you're referring to the Italian Renaissance.
The Renaissance was an era filled with revolutionary artwork, new ways of thinking, and explorations of sciences and education. It was a lively period in which people's mindset shifted towards focus on the individual, rather than the endless religious worship which took place during the Dark Ages as a result of fear of death. Countless works of art exist as a testament of the renaissance today, such as those of the famous Painters Leonardo Da Vinci, and Rafael, and sculptures exist from the period in which Van Gogh flourished. Scientific discoveries were explored, including various discoveries by Da Vinci, yet again, and by countless scientists. The Renaissance was not simply a creation of learning, but a revival thereof, consisting of the rediscovery of Classical Learnings, and a newfound intellectual spirit.

What was the benefit of writing in the vernacular?
Before writing in the vernacular the people that weren't educated didn't know Latin. And when the Church changed the Mass being said in Latin to the language of the country/ the people, the people could understand what was being said. the vernacular helped the people understand what was going on.
I'm not sure if you're talking about the Church exactly, and you're probably not. So, by writing in vernacular people could understand what they were reading. But educated people were able to read and write, while also being able to speak Latin.
