What factors influence the breathing rate during exercise?

Respiratory rate is influenced by almost everything, anatomically and environmentally. Anatomical causes of respiratory rate changes are ailments such as copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) asthma, airway obstructions, diabetic coma or shock, congestive heart failure (back up of fluids through the venus supply), croup, anaphylaxsis, etc. Environmental causes include airway anomallies, drug overdoses, inhaled poisons,smoking etc.

The longer or faster you exercise determines on the struggle you put to ur body, By pushing yourself to the max your body will be pumping faster and making you breathe much faster to get the air through your body.

It also depends on what type of exercise you do eg. Aerobic or Anarobic. Aerobic is a long exercise where you test your body in a longer time period eg. Cross-country, Football, Marathon and Rugby etc. Anarobic is a short exercise where you can spring or quickly change the angle of your body in a short period of time eg. 100-Metre Race, Football - To catch up to a opposing player, Cricket - To run to the opposite crease and Baseball - To run round the pitch and get a home run!

It is because we need different amount of energy in different conditions of our body. When we rest we need less energy but when we do hard work we need more energy. Performing hard work is a difficult activity and it needs more energy. Thus, by increasing the breathing rate more energy is supplied to the cells for the production of more energy.
