What does hypercarbic respiratory failure?

Acute respiratory failure with high carbon dioxide levels

What do you need to remember to do with your vocal cords when you want to whisper?

Probably take in less air for example when you scream you usually take in more air in order to scream. In this case take in less air. Try it.... to make sure you understand.

How do i increase respiratory minute volume?

in order to increase the amount air moving through the lungs every minute, you need to perform some sort of acute exercise which will also increase your breathing rate and heart rate.

Respiration using air is called?

aerobic respiration, without air it's anaerobic.

Which field is better respiratory therapist or radiology?

It's not a question of which one is better, it's just that they are different. First acquire a vision for yourself, a clearly articulated picture of the future you intend to create for yourself. The vision should be based on a passion for what you want to do (exactly). Once you have this, your path will become clear.

How does the stomach help the respiratory system?

The stomach aids the Respiratory System by breaking down nutrients that will be absorbed by finger-like projections known as villi located in the small intestine, and then the nutrients will be released in the bloodstream by blood vessels located near Th e villi and the nutrients Will be sent to organs to allow them of greater health which includes.. the lungs

What is a routine pulmonary functions test?

measurement of lung function through spirometry yielding values including FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ration PEF and FEF 25-75: 50, 75 aned soemtimes 85 % of predicted value

How does the pH of the blood change when you hold your breath?

"because your heart is pumping blood with less oxygen flowing throug your blood"

I want a better answer than the one I am about to give, but the CO2 that you are holding in raises the acidity of your blood (thus lowering the pH).

Why is smoking dangerous?

Smoking in public is harmful for the smokers and the people around them. Smoking cause lots of diseases including cancer. Also they stain your teeth and gives off terrible odor which may be very rude.

What is the function of the Respiratory System and Lungs?

To bring oxygen into the body, transfer gases into the tissues, and remove carbon dioxide from the body.

Can convicted felons become respiratory therapists?

In your state - IF the occupation is overseen by a state licensing authority - you will have to contact them in order to learn if they will grant you a license to practice. Also, you need to consider the possible impact your past record may have on the decision of any potential employer.

Processes involved in anaerobic respiration?

Anaerobic Glycolysis occurs in our muscle cells during high intensity physical activity and the system last up to 3 minutes. Glycolysis is the break down of sugar

How does the respiratory system connect to any other body systems?

The respiratory system connects to the circulatory system through the exchange of gases in the alveoli of the lungs, where oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is expelled. Additionally, it works with the nervous system to regulate breathing rates and respond to changes in carbon dioxide and oxygen levels. The respiratory system also interacts with the immune system, helping to filter out pathogens and debris through mucus and cilia in the airways.

How is breathing affected if the smooth muscle of the bronchial tree relaxes?

Smooth muscle in the lung encircles bronchiolar tubular passages that lead to the alveoli (you would need a microscope to see this, by the way). Constriction of the muscle would close the diameter of the bronchiolar tubes and thus create a very high resistance to airflow during inspiration to the alveoli downstream of that bronchiolar passage. Airflow would be directed to bronchiolar tubes whose diameters were enlarged because the smooth muscle is (more) relaxed.

The rate of respiration (what you call breathing) is affected by a balance of oxygenation and carbon dioxide. it si the level of carbon dioxide that actually controls respiration rate (it is sensed and controlled by the nervous system).

If smooth muscle is relaxed, more carbon dioxide is probably expired from the body (as well as oxygen coming in). With a reduced level of blood carbon dioxide, the autonomic nervous system would not demand a higher respiration rate. And so the person would have a lower respiration rate...fewer breaths per unit time (minute).

Thus smooth muscle relaxation likely leads to a lowered breathing rate.
