Punk Rock. Rough rock-&-roll played at high energy, often with rather angry, snarling para-political lyrics, and often an aggressive attachment to low musical ability. Supposedly an antidote to rock having lost its way in the complexities of Progressive Rock; but it could be argued that Punk was so far removed from P.R. that heavy-metal was the more likely reaction. Part of a fashion that included strange clothes and unpleasant behaviour; hijacked commercially by Malcolm MacLaren.

Heavy Rock. Goes back to the 1960s but still retains and attracts anew, a large, faithful following. Various styles ranging from quite melodic to wall-of-sound "thrash" with no pretence to be anything at all subtle.

New Wave. Rather fey, heavily synthesised pop that tried to be a lyrical and melodic reaction to Punk. It did at least try to show genuine ability to play or sing; and though some succeeded, much of it ended up as bland, soul-less crotchet-counting.

New R-'n'-B. A marketing name. Not to be confused with Rhythm and Blues, which is hard-edged, 12-bar blues-based rock. Characterised by very formulaic synthentic, sampled or session-musician backings of celebrity solo singers, many of them female, of dubious talent; and manufactured with a purely ommercial end in view.

Drum-&-Bass and similar. Purely dance beats, mostly synthetic and sampled, little or no lyrical content, melody or rhythm; with no pretence or intention of anything more than something to dance to.

Also don't forget that a huge amount of much deeper music of all styles including orchestral symphonies, choral and opera, is still being written.

There is great debate/discussion over this very question and one of the issues being that Sony/BMG has not updated/properly credited all of the sales of Elvis' records. However, it is safe to say that Elvis' recordings (worldwide) have sold in excess of a billion records.

Does Matt Bellamy have a religion?

Matt does not believe in god. In fact he disses god in the songs Megalomonia and Fury. (I"m not going to change your answer) but Megalomania doesn't diss god. I could see how you interpret "What were we built for, will someone tell me please" I think he's more talking about how he over sees society and thinks its just useless and he wants to see purpose.

How much did vinyl records cost?

Check what other people are selling them for on some online sales sites. Pay attention to the condition as well as the price because condition is super important when selling vinyl in a marketplace through mail-order.

M- or EX+ is generally perfect. VG++ is almost a M- or EX+ . EX or VG+ is pretty good or excellent. Not mint, some scuffing, some very minor noise, but still pretty darn excellent. VG or EX- is like a regular used record, marked up but still plays OK where the music still comes through better than the noise.

What type of music do people in wales listen to?

Welsh people, just like people everywhere else, are individuals with their own personal tastes. The same types of music which are popular throughout western culture sell well in Wales. Perhaps the only real regional difference might be that there is also a market for Welsh language artists, which perhaps have a much more limited appeal outside of Wales.

What singer did not board Buddy Holly's plane?

On February 3, 1959, Crickets guitarist Tommy Allsup lost a coin toss to Richie Valens. As a result, it was Valens and not Allsup who died in the plane crash .

Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson, who was suffering a bout of the flu, took the plane in place of Waylon Jennings. Jennings beat himself up for years, for exclaiming "I hope your plane crashes!" as they said goodbye. (The band would have known he was joshing, having just told him "I hope your bus breaks down!") Guilt feelings are funny that way.

Why did rock and roll begin?

A bunch of white guys tried to play Rhythm and Blues in the very early Fifties. They kept throwing in Country riffs, and it came out really funny. The result was rock 'n roll, and the rest is history. Also, Chuck Berry deliberately played R&B like a hillbilly to get a wider audience.

How old was Jimi Hendrix when rock n roll was invented?

That is a highly debatable question. Jimi didn't become famous in the United States initially. While playing in a band in Harlem he was noticed by a British producer who convinced him to go to London. The problem Jimi was having at this time was that he was only a guitar player playing other people's songs and he was not allowed to express his own artistic talents.

In London he was able to cut albums, his first one being "Are You Experienced?" This album was a major success in Europe but not the United States. So to answer the question, "How old was Jimi Hendrix when he became famous?"

In Europe, probably twenty three. In the United States twenty-five after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in California. Sadly Jimi died two years later just when his success was reaching legendary proportions due to the number one album "Electric Ladyland" and his performance at Woodstock in 1969.

What is some background information on rock n rolls history?

What is the lowest tuning you can use on a guitar?

Depends mostly on the strings. Various gauges reach various depths, but with normal electric guitar strings, I have reached Drop A, no problem. Many bands go lower, for example Slipknot did a couple of songs in Drop G I think, Cannibal Corpse are famous for A# Standard tuning. The lowest I've heard (and possibly the lowest currently possible) is E standard, an entire octave (12 half steps) down from Standard Tuning, used in Meshuggah's song "Spasm".I think with normal strings I wouldn't dare go beyong Drop G#, but with different guage strings, I believe 12 half steps down is the lowest in a recorded song. Hope I helped.

Disadvantages of rock music i?

There is no such thing as dangers of rock music. It's only dangerous if you make it out to be that way. It's almost like saying the dangers of rap would be gangs, guns and crack. If you are stupid enough to do what the lyrics sometimes say, then that's the only danger. And yes, it is 100% completely true that listening to rock music may result in loss of hearing, but so does everything else too. So, no can judge rock based on volume, that's just stupid. If I turned a rap song up super loud, it would do the same damage.

AnswerThe only dangers are the one people are stupid enough to create

Just listen to Thunderstruck by AC/DC - then tell me that it is damaging.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you are listening to songs, the lyrics are automatically absorbed by your sub-conscious brain. Thus when you repeatedly listening to rock music with lyrics associated with depression, suicide, or homicide commands, you will have a tendency to commit suicide, murder or to go to depression. Moreover, metal and hard rock are designed in a such a way that it grabs your full attention and makes a sudden jolt in your mind. In conclusion, in the long run, listening to rock not only makes you hearing impaired but make you psychiatric!

In what ways did rock n roll contribute to the generation gap?

Rock and roll was the music preferred by the young people, and in the 1950s, it was a sign that society was changing. In fact, rock music was a major example of that generational change: its popularity showed that young people were rejecting the music their parents liked (big band music), and choosing music that spoke to their own interests and needs. Also, rock music brought black teens and white teens together, and at a time when America was still segregated, this became controversial. In addition, rock music encouraged a very different kind of dancing, which involved moving one's body in a way that older people found too sexual, compared to the kind of dancing that was popular in the 1930s and 1940s.

So, liking rock music (and its sister genre, rhythm & blues) was a way for teens to show they were rebelling against their parents' preferences. Thanks to the popularity of rock music, teens became an important demographic group: they bought lots of records, they watched TV programs and listened to radio stations that played their favorite songs or featured their favorite performers, and commercial advertisers began to cater to the younger audience as a result.

How many people listen to Rock music?

I love Rock music. Personally, I think it's an amazing genre. I'm guessing a lot of people like/love Rock music but not as much as those who like Hip Hop/Rap/RnB/Clubland/ Pop since we're living in a generation where we have bad artists like Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber and One Direction who killed music. If we were living in the 90's or the early 2000's, I would personally say everyone liked Rock music:)
