My personal favorite site in Rome is the Pantheon, but the Piazza Navona is a wonderful square if you want to eat(a meal) and watch people and a gorgeous fountain, the forum and Coloseum has the most archaeology, there are shopping districts, the Vatican. It just depends on what you want to see the most. I'd recommend seeing them all.

No, nobody can be a gladiator today. The gladiatorial games ended in the fifth century, for they began to be looked down upon, and it caused the extinction of some animals like the Barbary Lion. If anyone tried to be a real gladiator in the present, they would be charged with murder because the gladiators fought to the death against their will and the audiences thrived on the carnage. The closest thing you can get to a real gladiator would be at a reenactment festival, where the fighting would clearly be fake. If one goes to Rome, perhaps you may see a man merely attired in gladiatorial armour for the sake of tourism.
