In 1926 who was the duke and duchess of york?
When H.R.H. The Prince Albert, Duke of York succeeded to the throne of the United Kingdom in 1936, he took the name HM King George VI, and his York title merged with the Crown. This meant that his former title Duke of York and Duchess of York went "back into the pot" of properties, lands, and titles that the king or his heirs might choose to one day bestow on another member of the family.
But custom, the title Duke of York is bestowed on the sovereign's son, specifically, the second eldest son, and this usually when not until he attains the age of majority. King George VI had two daughters - Princess Elizabeth, born 1926, his heiress, and Princess Margaret, born 1930 - but no sons. Elizabeth succeeded her father as sovereing in 1952 at the age of 25. During the year 1961, H.R.H. The Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth and her husband, was less than two years of age; although he was destined for that title, it was not until 1986 that the Queen bestowed it on him.
In a sense, then, it might be said that the duke of York in 1961 was the Queen.

Has Prince Philip got German parents?
Answer:
Philip's parents were Prince Andrew of Greece & Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg; thus, he is 50% German and 50% Greek.
(Update answer 3 Feb 2011)
I think this answer is a little simplistic. He actually has no Greek blood at all. His mother was German, that is true. She was a great grand daughter of Queen Victoria of England, but Victoria too was of German descent. All of Alice's other parents, grandparents, etc ere all German.
His father, Prince Andrew was the son of King George the 1st of Greece & Denmark and Olga of Russia.
First, look at George. 1st He was the son of Prince Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Cassel (German). Christian IX was brought to Denmark to assume the throne of a childless relative. Where was Prince Christian from? Germany. He was born in the town of Schleswig in Germany, so in essence, George 1st of Greece was German.
What about Olga of Russia? Her mother was German and her father was Russian. He in turn also came from a German mother and a Russian father.
Prince Philip is of German descent. Percentages are difficult to work out with all the inter-marrying that went on, but he is, overwhelmingly, German.
Why are the british royal family so popular?
A lot of people find reassurance in continuity and survival.
It tends to be other countries that admire our Royal Family, and monarchy in general, more than we do. Spain brought back the monarchy. The Austrians have talked about bringing back the Habsburgs. The Russians gave a huge welcome to Prince Michael of Kent when he visited - having a resemblance to his cousin, the last Czar.
In England, it is considered uncool to support the monarchy. But there an awful lot of decent and responsible people who are uncool.

Did Charles always love camilla even when he was married to Diana?
No.
For one thing, he was already secretly committed to Camilla as the love of his life.
For another, he didn't actually choose Diana. He was pushed into it by Prince Philip, who thought there ought to be a glamorous young Princess, who could bring some good looks into the royal bloodline.
Even a glance at the two of them together shows that there was no real rapport. He was hopelessly wrong for her. But she was too young to know what she was getting (pushed) into.
