You can bring food into the zoo but you cannot feed it to the animals. If you have to eat a special diet they will let you bring in food, especially for a baby. My mother used to eat her lunch there several times a week (she had the lifetime pass). There is a restaurant there and food stands. The food at the good restaurant is really good. The small cafe food is nominal.

Right now, at least, in southern California, just wear jeans and a T - shirt. Bring a sweater, it can get cool at night. For the beach, wear a bathing suit (easy enough). Norhtern California is cooler, so dress with heavier clothing. Really, it depends on where you're going; typically, though, it is pretty warm. If you see any celebrities, leave them alone, or else. Seriously. No autographs. Period.

At that "short" flight distance, consider either driving, getting a train or a coach instead of flying, as they are cheaper and less polluting.
This flight time is approximate. Factors such as weather conditions could affect the flight time.
A full day if you want to see everything plus the shows. It's better to take the tour bus, then go by foot to areas not covered on the bus route. Lots of hills with some escalators, but not in all places. Go see the pandas first.
It takes about 3 weeks.

The San Diego Zoo is important because it takes care of and protects animals. Many of the animals are endangered species. Hope this helps ;)

Although crossing back into the United States without a passport or WHTI compliant Drivers License (must denote citizenship, they are only currently offered by NY, WA and a couple of other states) means you are not in compliance with the new regulations as of now the only penalty is the possibility of a longer wait (at the border crossing in San Ysidro, CA you can expect to wait an additional 1-3 hours in the non WHTI compliant line while at Otay Mesa there would be no difference) however there is word that fines may soon be implemented for repeat offenders.
take the actual miles times 5,280 then devide by 6,000. 1 mile = 5,280 feet. 1 nautical mile = 6,000 feet
San Diego, California is on Pacific Time (UTC-8). Since the time is always changing, it is not recommended that I write the time in San Diego right now.
