How much does a saxophone cost?

Depends on which "sax":

  • soprano sax
  • alto sax
  • tenor sax
  • bass sax

Of course, the larger the instrument, the more costly it will be. The other thing that comes into consideration is the instrument brand name. Kielworth's (for example) may command a higher price than a lesser known brand. Years ago, I bought an excellent condition Kielworth Alto sax - (6 years old) - for $1,650.

Is a 20m conn alto sax a bad sax?

Nope, most Conn instruments are usually of very high quality.

*edit* A Conn 20M is a student model from the late 60's early/mid 70's and can be bought secondhand from eBay for about $350 to $400 but that's not to say it's a 'bad sax'. Conns from that era were decent saxes but it is still advised you get a newly purchased horn checked over by a decent tech and it should be a fairly good player one all the pads are in order and any leaks sorted.

How many saxophones are in an orchestra?

It depends how many people you have to play the saxophone. There are usually only parts for 2 altos, 1 tenor, and 1 baritone. If you have a lot of saxophonists you can get away with having up to about 7 altos, 3 tenors, and 2 bari's. It really all depends how many you want.

If you're talking about a jazz band. There is usually a lead woodwind (sax 1), alto saxophone 2, tenor 1 and 2, and only one baritone. Again, it depends how many saxophones you have. Just not too many bari's!

How many notes are between C and E?

Notes between C and EThere are three notes between C and E: C#/Db, D, and D#/Eb.

Just so you don't get so confused, the person that answered this was correct, but some people are just beginning and you really don't want to confuse them because they aren't ready.

Between C and E is just D. Unless you are playing with sharps and flats then the C key would be D flat (Db) and a C# and then D which is between C and E, then D# and E flat (Eb) D# and Eb are on the same black key. Along with C# and D flat (Db)

Hope this helps!!!

How do you freestyle on the saxophone?

That's kinda hard to say. You really just sort of mess around with different notes and fingerings until you've got the hang of stringing notes together into tunes. You can also start off with a familiar tune and then add/take away notes or rests to make it your own song. Freestyling is just a fancy word for messing around, really.

What is a saxophone mouthpiece facing?

The sax mouthpiece facing is the curve on the reed side of the mouthpiece. There are usually 5 measurements used with feeler gauges and a piece of clear glass with hash marks on it. The most common measurement is the tip opening usually expressed in a 1000th of an inch. A sax mouthpiece such as the Meyer 5MM is a .071" (you would say...It's 71 "one thousandth" of an inch.).Some companys use the metric system like Vandoren, some companys use letters like Selmer. The length of the curve from the tip of the mouthpiece to where it meets the flat table is called the length of the facing. A mouthpiece can have a short facing or a long facing. It could have a french facing (classical)or a NY style facing (jazz). You can find charts on the Inter-web that list all the mouthpieces and their corresponding tip openings and also their facing lengths.

Good Luck!!
